The lights dim slowly until you're left in darkness. The only comforting light is the pale glow from glow sticks people are waving frantically about. Your heart races, the only sound accompanying it is the wild and excited screams around you. It's close. So close. You don't mind the bodies bumping into yours because you are only focused on one thing. The stage.

The lights are on again, flashing out towards the crowd and the sound level instantly goes up a notch. Then the lights turn back onto the stage. There they are. AKB48 has appeared on stage.

AKB48 was formed in 2005 by a man named Yasushi Akimoto. The concept of the group was to be "idols you can meet". There are 64 members of the popular Japanese pop group, split into four groups, so as not to overload their members with constant performances, which are everyday. Each time has their own image, and no team is the same.

Members of the group are all girls, their ages usually ranging from 14-20 years old. They are not even allowed to have boyfriends! The group has seen much controversy from their provocative lyrics and costumes, people finding it too risquÃ© for members so young. AKB48 representatives have stated that it is so the group appeals to both men and women. However, it is still a prevailing stigma that AKB48 is for old men.

Because JKT48 is AKB48's first sister group out of Japan! JKT48 is located in Indonesia.
