A Unicorn's Dream

Young and free; innocence gleamed.
Long mane, long tail, and horn just as long.
My own forest one day, I dreamed.
But I was singing the wrong song.
Running with the wind in my mane,
loud and thunderous were my hoof beats.
The evil that chased began to gain.
Plain as day came my defeat.
Darkness replaced joy with sorrow,
took my love and gave me hate.
I was cast into a furrow,
so, this became my fate;
Lost and ruined, sold into forlorn.
Missing was my very own horn.

Poison me I wish.
Forever gone, just a swish.
Faster than a kiss.

Magic gone and scales drawn,
but somehow still alive.
I awoke to the dawn,
and here I came to arrive.
What had happened?
I merely wondered.
My whole world was darkened,
All of this while I slumbered.
I stole my reflection in a pond.
I gasped and looked away.
My thoughts became fond,
and began to stray.
Even as such a beast,
my beauty had not ceased.

I walk very far.
I glance skyward and see stars.
The ground feel like tar.

I bask in the moonlight,
and feel sheltered by the air.
I breath in the glorious night.
This sight was so rare.
A star fell from the sky,
and alighted in this meadow,
and so I began to cry,
and all I hear is my echo.
Just like this magical rock,
I too have fallen from grace.
My secrets sealed by a lock.
All of them lost in the chase.
I stopped my weeping,
the rest I shall be keeping.

My heart now broken,
I began to seek healing.
My dreams were to remain unspoken.
I long for something else to be feeling.
Your life may last forever,
but, I warn, your dreams will never.
