"No young man, no matter how great, can know his destiny. He cannot glimpse his part in the great story that is about to unfold. Like everyone, he must live and learn. And so it will be for the young warlock arriving at the gates of Camelot; a boy that will in time father the legend. His name… Merlin."

From the time I was born, life was not easy. I, Merlin, grew up in a small village. There was hardly any food to eat, not enough supplies to keep us warm, or enough stone or wood to fix up the houses. When food was needed, harsh storms came and destroyed the crops or farms that the farmers worked so hard on. Our little village was helpful and caring to each other when in need; and not one of us denied a person for shelter or food. And after the storms, or barely having any shillings to survive, there was always that hope for a miracle to come.

As a young lad I never understood my powers. And around the village I was able to do things and not know how, or why I did them. My best friend, Will, was always curious on how I made objects suddenly shift. And I bet my mother got annoyed of me asking her the same question on what magic really is, and what can it do? Can it be used for good or for evil? How did I even get it in the first place? Why didn't she have magic? Well, I won't find out these answers till later on in life.

Life slowly went on from the village, and my mother had decided that when I was a teenager it was for the best that she sent me off to a place called Camelot, and there was a man by the name of Gaius that would be waiting for me. Could it be worse than where I'm living now? Maybe, maybe not. I could try and get a job and earn some shillings so that I could help provide for my mother; she was the only thing in this world that I cared about. The time had come for me to leave, and after I had said my goodbyes and packed my things, I left for Camelot. The journey took me forever on foot, but I finally made it. And I could not believe my eyes at the sight of this place. It was beautiful - and here I was doubting that it could've been worse than where I lived! People were greeting me as if I was just another person that lived there. There was tons of produce, animals, people selling cloth, blacksmiths, and more. But I couldn't get distracted from all of this - I'd have to look at it later because Gaius was probably waiting on me.

When I got closer to the drawbridge, my pace picked up a little bit as I was grinning from ear to ear when I saw the site of the castle. Of course it didn't feel like home, but I guess I could get used to living in it. As I entered through the tall standing towers of the castle, I saw a huge group of people standing around to what looked like a town meeting. Oh boy, was I wrong. Two guards walked through the crowd, and up to the a middle platform with a man. A loud booming voice rang out in the courtyard and said, "Let this serve as a lesson to all. This man, Thomas James Collins, is judged guilty of conspiring to using enchantments and magic. And presumed to the laws of Camelot, I, Uther Pendragon, have decreed that such practices are banned on penalty of death." I gulped in fear that one day that could be me up there. The poor man had to die on being accused of using magic. What if he didn't use it? This was already my first day of coming to Camelot, and this is what I see? And when I thought things couldn't get any worse, well, let me tell you.. it did. After what I saw, Thomas' mother started saying things about the King and how it wasn't fair that her son was taken away. Well very quickly the King wanted her arrested, but she then used her necklace to escape. It was if she used magic through her necklace to escape her fate.

After all the hustle and bustle of the execution, I made my way into the castle to find Gaius. A paces away, and a flight of stairs later, I walked into the room where he was meant to be. When I entered the room, it was filled with books, herbs, liquid filled jars, pots, a few tables and some chairs. A few minutes later, he was no where to be found. I called out for him. And then I realized that my calling out for Gaius had made him fall back from the small balcony in the room and that's when my magic was triggered. He landed on the bed that I moved and was out of breathe for a few short minutes. Once he realized what happened, he was irate and rushed over to me asking me how I just did that. Well, nobody ever believes me when I tell them that I was born with magic. Stuff like this just happens! So explaining this was difficult enough, so our greeting didn't go as I had planned. Some short breathes later, I was introducing myself to Gaius. Besides giving him the letter, I think he already knew that I was Merlin - Hunith's son.

The day had gone by quickly, and my room was very nice. I had re-situated the items in the room to how I liked them, and unpacked some of my things. Little did I realize that the hustle and bustle of outside was loud, and the sound carried through my small window. That smiling feeling from ear to ear was back. The sight was amazing, and the lights in the town looked like little fireflies. I couldn't believe this was going to be where I lived my life now.

Morning light seeped through my window and awoke me. As I grabbed my jacket off the chair and went out of my room, I saw that Gaius was awake before me. He had a very un-appetizing looking breakfast on the table. When I sat down to eat it, the way it was in the bowl was just horrible looking. I knew I'd have to see if they had a better looking meal in the kitchen later today. I felt bad for not eating any, so I figured I'd be on my way to check out Camelot. When I got up, we both bumped each others arm at the same time and a bucket of water fell over. Well before it fell onto the ground, I had used my magic again. And well, being the nice humble guy that I am, I went to mop it up. Gaius said for me to keep busy and deliver medicine for him while he cleaned and made stuff. So before I walked out the door, he handed me a sandwich (let me tell you, it looked way better than what was in the bowl.) After I had delivered some medicine to two different folks in the castle, I figured it was a good time to go out and explore. And as I was walking down past the gates of the castle, four boys my age were bullying one of the servants. They made him hold a shield and move, while the blonde one threw knives at him. The poor servant tripped minutes later and the wooden shield rolled my way. As I asked for them to stop, the blonde one walked over and asked me if I knew him, and obviously I did not. I told him my name was Merlin - and tried to shake his hand - but he continued to babble on about things. Then my first mistake was calling him a friend. No wait. A friend who was a complete ass to others. Then I guess that was my second mistake, because little did I realize that I was calling Prince Arthur an ass.

Whelp, this was a great day to say the least. Trying to be nice to others apparently doesn't work in Camelot. The next ordeal was me getting thrown in the dungeon overnight. Earlier the next morning, someone or something kept calling my name; I just couldn't find the source of it. Then Gaius happened to come in when I was trying to find it. Thank the kings and queens that he got me out of there all the while he was yelling at me about being such an idiot. So unfortunately there was a price to pay for being such an idiot. I was put in the middle of the town and got to be the idiot for the day. Tomatoes and cabbages were thrown at me from small kids to grown adults. They were throwing them so hard, and I know this one kid just wanted to hit me right in the face with a tomato. Why do people even waste their food? Didn't it take you forever to grow it? Gaius just laughed as he passed by right before people went to go get even more vegetables to throw at my head. While I could catch a breathe, a pretty young lady walked towards me. She introduced herself as Guinevere, or Gwen for short. She was the Lady Morgana's maid. It would've been nice to have a proper meeting with her - instead of being made fun of - but all I could do was awkwardly shake her hand. Guinevere told me how brave I was for standing up to Arthur, but it was quite a foolish thing to do. I thought I was brave enough to finish him off for being such a bully. Of course she mentioned that I don't look like the muscle-y type of guys, and how Arthur was one of those "I'm the prince, and I can save the world" type of guys. Sounded typical for the way he acted. Guinevere and I talked for a few more minutes, and then she bid me a farewell as my fans were awaiting to throw even more, yes, vegetables at me.

Awhile later I was let go by the guards, and I immediately ran back to the room where Gaius and I lived. Oh man was I sore. And all Gaius could think about at dinner was joking with me about having vegetables in my soup. Then he got off topic and asked me about what my mother had said to me about my magic. "I'm just special," is all she had ever said to me. It's saddening to know that part of what Gaius said to me about King Uther banning all magic about twenty years ago. Oh, and he also banned the Great Dragons as well. There is one rumored to be underneath the castle, but no one has ever been able to free it. Gaius had stopped talk about that misery, and he asked me to deliver more medicine. Two, to three flights of stairs later, I went into Lady Helen's room and what I found in there was quite disturbing. It was really dirty, dusty and cobble-webby like. A voodoo hay doll was on her dresser. The mirrors were covered up, and she also had an interesting looking book. The few minutes I had left made me want to take a peak in it, but she entered just as I had turned around. I stuttered as she asked me what I was doing in there. I told her, and then left as fast as I could.

After being almost caught looking at someone else's belongings, leaving for outside was a bad idea as well. I happened to pass Prince Arthur and his friends in the market. I didn't want nothing to do with him, but he persisted to bug me. He threatened to challenge me to a duel, but I kind of hinted that I didn't want to - even though I knew I could take him on with my magic. Then Arthur threw me one of those spiked chain balls and started swinging it. Oh here we go again; Gaius is going to be so furious. Arthur continued to egg it on. I used my magic a few times within the battle. I'm shocked he didn't see my blue eyes turn to orange. Gaius arrived a few minutes in, and the look on his face wasn't pleasant. And after the fact that I wasn't paying attention, Arthur kicked my butt. Damn, I had him. He needed to be taught a lesson. On the way back to the castle, Gaius hadn't said a word. I knew he was furious with me. Probably thinks I'm a trouble-maker, can't clean, can't do anything but magic. When we got back into the room, he then went onto saying all this gibberish about magic and spells. So I snapped right back at him. "Magic is all I have, and if I can't use it, I'm a nobody. I might as well die if I can't use it." And that was the end of our conversation. He left me alone till it was night time, and came in to see how the nasty gash on my right shoulder was from the chain ball. Well, while mending it, I figured now was a good time to ask him if he knew why I was born like this? How did I get magic? Am I a monster for having it? And he told me that it was none of that. That I'm destined for good and great things.

Later that night when I was trying to sleep (again), that same deep voice kept calling me. I awoke immediately and tried not to wake Gaius as I left the room. I figured it was under the castle - that one Gaius had told me about this morning. I snuck down there, and walked down a dark stairway to a underground cave. I didn't see it at first, but then when I called out, he swooped up and landed on a rock cliff. I couldn't believe my eyes. An enormous golden dragon. A real dragon? Still living? Did the King know about this one underneath? The last Great Dragon was speaking to me about how small I was for such a great destiny. To him I probably like an ant. And what did he mean, destiny? What was my destiny? He continued on. "Arthur is the once and future king of Camelot, and he's supposed to unite the land of Albien. Arthur is to face many challenges in life." the Dragon said. But what did this have to do with me? I'm a nobody. Nothing. And nothing to Arthur but an idiot. The Great Dragon told me that everything had to do with me. I was supposed to help Arthur fight off these friends and foes, face challenges, and help him unite Albien.

Morning came sooner than later. And it actually seemed like earlier because Gaius threw a fit that my room was a mess. I was tired. Like I could possibly care where things go. Five minutes of stretching and yawning, I cleaned after he left the room. My breakfast was taken quickly, and I was out the door to take some medicine to Morgana. When I got down the hall and had knocked on her door, I'm pretty sure she assumed that I was Guinevere. Oh, crap. She wanted me to hand her that? Well I couldn't refuse. I grabbed the dress and tried to keep down, and as quiet as I could possibly be. She asked me a question, and I had to make myself sound like a girl. Thank the lord Gwen came in after the fact that I had 'mhmmed' like a girl. I quietly thanked her, and got out of there.

In the evening was the huge feast that King Uther had planned. There were tons of people there. There was also some entertainment for the night - which was Lady Helen singing. Oh man, that was a huge mess! Lady Helen started to sing and the crowd seemed to be enjoying their music while dining with the other guests around. The room had suddenly got dim, people started falling asleep, and then the creepiest thing happened - Spiderwebs started to form on them almost like the place hadn't been dusted in decades. Of course nobody noticed how I was the smart one and plugged my ears to drown out the singing. She started to walk down the isle and I saw that she was trying to kill Arthur in the process; but she sadly failed. Before she could throw the knife, I used my magic and the chandelier fell down upon her. When she fell down, started to wake up; so I assumed she was dead. But the Lady Helen (or how about the witch, because that's what she was) threw the knife at Arthur and I lunged and grabbed him before it pierced his body. Did that really all just happen? That was so quick! I couldn't believe it myself. I stared at the witch in disbelief as she lay there. King Uther looked quite shocked, and then thanked me for saving Arthur's life. And yippee, guess what happened next? You guessed it... I became Arthur's "man-servant." Really? Is that what they call them? Man-servant? Seriously, what type of a name is that? I'd rather just be called servant. Arthur and I could not believe it for a second. Who would want to be under that royal prat's command? Oy! So after that huge mess of a feast, everyone in the castle returned to their duties, guests left their best wishes with King Uther and Arthur, and left for home.

Gaius came into my room and gave me a gift when I was back home from the feast. As I unwrapped it, I could see the binding and leather of the book. And I couldn't believe it. It was a book of magic. A book that I'd have to hide well if I want to keep my life. When I thanked Gaius for this precious gift, Arthur was in need of my assistance. And well, I guess this is where my destiny starts.

Beyond this point is where I will write more of Season 1, and then continue on to Seasons 2-5. If you have not seen Merlin before, its just best that you watch it for yourself and find out what happens, and then come back and read when I have more.

Merlin's story was created on my own; so if some of the story doesn't seem right to you, well that's why! Haha. I based this first story off of the first episode from Season 1. It might take me awhile to go through a few others in each season, but I plan to write on those weekly or monthly if college homework does not get in the way.

I really hope you enjoyed reading this! I had a spur of the moment idea and thought it would be a cool story to write about, or to use as a role play someday. The story took me awhile to write... it ended up as 4000 words, and then I ended up editing it about 4-5 times to make sure the writing went smoothly and was a tad bit shorter. Haha, I'm sure there's still some spots where its oddly written, so if you don't understand it, just put it into your own words as you read c:
