The Good Siren

Once upon a time there was a playful creature named Myztic. Myztic had a voice that sounded so beautiful that sea creatures could not resist following her in order to hear her sing. In addition to having a sweet-sounding voice, Myztic had a sweet personality and attitude. As a result, Myztic had many friends.

One day Myztic found an ancient book that told many of the legends of the sea. The story that piqued Myztic's interest the most was the legend about sirens. The little beaver saw the picture of a great ship sailing through the ocean. On the next page there was a picture of strange creatures that were singing on an island. Myztic turned the page and saw two more pages that depicted the ship’s crew hearing the song and directing their ship towards the singing creatures. When Myztic turned the next page, she was horrified at what she saw. The page showed that the ship had been wrecked on the sharp rocks surrounding the island where the sirens lived. The next page showed women and children crying as they heard the sad fate of their loved ones who had gone out to sea.

Myztic traveled to an elderly torrent who lived in a nearby reef and asked him what the tale in the book meant. The torrent told her, “Ah, it is an old legend used to warn adventurers about the many dangers that could lurk nearby while on a voyage. These sirens are notorious for using their songs to lure sailors into their home and use them for their devious schemes.”

This information worried Myztic. She knew that creatures were irresistibly drawn to her due to her voice. Oftentimes she found small sea creatures had crept into her home after she had sung. What if she caused trouble and chaos via her gifted voice?

One fateful night a cargo ship got lost in thick fog. The sailors became concerned because they knew that there were sharp jagged rocks in the area. If the ship did not regain its bearings, there was a chance that the ship would run into the rocks and sink. Myztic heard about what was occurring on the surface of the ocean from some of her friends. Concerned for the sailors’ welfare, Myztic thought of a plan to save the ship from certain doom.

Sometime later, the crew of the ship began to hear a strange song. At the same time, a myriad of small moving lights began to appear on the surface of the water, all going in the same direction. The sailors, who had never seen anything like this in their lives, determined that the lights were following the mysterious singing voice. Despite some reservations, the captain chose to follow the lights and song. A couple of hours later the sailors spotted a light coming from a lighthouse stationed on an island. The floating lights on the sea and the mysterious voice had indeed saved the ship. After arriving, the crew decided to stay on the island until the fog had cleared.

The knowledge that the ship had survived such a perilous situation warmed Myztic’s heart. Her plan of using her voice and the light emitted from various luminious sea creatures to guide the ship to safety had worked perfectly. From that day forward, many lost ships were guided to safety in the same way thanks to the efforts of a kind-hearted siren.
