"Ma, can I please come tonight? I promise I won't be in the way, I just want to help!" Wendall pleaded with his mother, attempting to make his eyes even bigger and more pathetic looking.

"I said no, Wendall." His mother said, not even looking at her son. "You'll just get in the way since either your Da or I will have to carry you."

Wendall sighed softly and fought back tears. It wasn't the first time he'd been denied going to help his family put the stars in the sky. It wasn't his fault he was born without wings but his family treated him like it was.

"Stay in the nest and we'll be back at sunrise." His father said before flying off into the sunset with his mother following after him.

"Have a nice night, Wingless Wonder." His older brother said with a laugh before following after his parents.

----------

Wendall has, unfortunately, been born into a flock of Irions responsible for putting the stars in the sky and forming the appropriate constellations every night. The reason it's unfortunate is because Wendall was born without wings, rendering him essentially useless to his flock and family. Over the years Wendall has endured name calling, teasing, and all around bullying from not only members of his flock, but even his own family. He has become rather thick skinned over the years and has tried to show up all the other members of his flock by knowing more about the stars than even the elders, because even though they are in charge of setting up the stars, the actual art and knowledge has dwindled over generations.

Irions in his flock no longer care to know why certain stars go in certain constellations and in specific orders. So every night Wendall climbs the tallest tree he can find, sits with all his star charts and books, and watches the members of his flock put the stars in their proper place.

As soon as he was old enough, Wendall left his family nest and set up his own nest on the side of a mountain. He put it as high as he could climb, just to try and be as close to the stars as he could. While his mountain side nest is convenient, he still runs around on the ground to try and see the stars from different angles.

Since he spends so much time on the ground and climbing trees, Wendall has a lot more muscle mass than the average Irion. He is able to run alongside, and keep up, with an Irion that's flying and has been known to beat his older brother when they race.
