Enola was alone from the moment she was born. That was because she was defective; a unicorn born with two horns. Shunned by society, she took residence in the icy fields of the Arctic Frost. From there, the rumors would grow. The nearby villagers, catching a glimpse of her from the side, saw only one horn protruding from her forehead; they never got close enough to realize that she was a reject; a freak; an outcast. She never let anyone get close enough to know more of her, fearing--no, loathing the rejection she would face if they were to discover what she truly was. Not a blessed creature, but a cursed one. She chose to live up to her name and isolate herself in the permawinter snow, never to know the company of a friend, and never again to suffer the scorn and shame of her peers...
From the depths of the storm, two eyes glare down upon the minion. A stray, Enola thought, her eyes narrowing at the sight. It was an uncommon one, to be sure. Few subetans wandered this far North, fewer pets, and never minions. The environment was simply too harsh for them. Enola knew this, and so she was naturally suspicious of the small creature's intentions.
The glint of metal in the distance accompanied by the sound of hunting dogs explained it all to her. Without pause, Enola sprang forth from the snow and gripped the iceeci by the scruff, bounding away into the white and leaving no trace of herself behind. Having lived in the Arctic Frost for so long, she had become a part of it; she held no scent and left no footprints behind. The hunter would find himself lost, his dogs searching for a fox that had disappeared without warning and without reason. Later on, at the tavern, he would swear he'd caught a glimpse of a unicorn--a fearsome one with teeth--snatching up his prey and stealing it away for herself.
But in reality, in a cavern that looked more like the gaping maw of a vicious beast, Enola would be curled around a stray iceeci, her cold body somehow providing warmth for the little minion as they slowly froze into the environment together. Two rejects of society, a lone and a stray, no longer so alone, and no longer astray.
As the iceeci woke up to find itself alive and in good company, Enola smiled.

Story on tabs 2 and 3 by me LadyFoxling I actually had something a little different in mind originally; a tsundere or kuudere Enola determined to stay alone while a stray iceeci followed her until it fell unconscious in the snow and Enola decided to keep it since it was so determinedly loyal without reason... but then I started writing and ended up with an entirely different story. My fingers have a mind of their own sometimes.
