"I wonder if I follow these stars... I could find my way home...
...No. That's just wishful thinking."

Name: Joseph Francis Kingsley

Age: 29

Appearance-
Eyes: Very light hazel; his wife likes to say that they look like golden beads. Tired-looking.
Hair: Dirty-blond, messy, choppy cut
Clothing: Brown newsboy hat and vest with white work shirt underneath, black tie, pocket watch chained to his trouser pocket.
Accessories: Simple gold wedding ring, always has a book pertaining artifacts on his body somewhere.

Story: His family used to be the guardians of a link between two parallel worlds. Joseph's world is underdeveloped (they discovered steamworks very late), while the other is similar to our reality. When he was a kid he inherited an heirloom which is actually the gate to the other world, but he was kept completely unaware of the item's identity, which was supposed to be explained to him on his wedding night. He grew up playing with it but was never told of its importance - and his family brought this secret to their graves when they died of mysterious causes the night before he married. He lived normally with his new family - working as a scholar in an unremarkable educational institution - unaware that his new family are the new guardians. As a family head of the new guardians he must keep the gate sealed as per agreement between the guardian families of the two parallel worlds, but because he never knew of that agreement and the task that fell upon him, he left the gate open and even fell through it! It reacted to his stresses of being drafted as a soldier in the first world war of his world (even though he was just a normal scholar before the draft), and being separated from his family - and opened to offer him a means to 'escape'. He fell through the gate and into the other world, where he must quickly find the artifact that would let him return to his world. He also actively searches for the other guardian family to seek their help. He misses his family a lot, and he feels estranged in the other world.

Notes: Most times he is found frowning, as if in deep thought. When he smiles, it is a weathered smile befitting a wanderer on an endless search for something solid to believe in - understandable since he's stuck in a strange world and nothing he does ever fits the situation or helps him in his cause. His family back in his own world consists of his wife and three children - two girls and a boy. Being a scholar, he's actually pretty good with inventions and has great intelligence - he makes clever trinkets to sell to the people in the other world to get him by.

Write-up:He had the whole galaxy in an orb on his desk.It was a beautiful thing encased in clear glass, a storm of colour - dull blue splattered with stars; nebulae red, orange, yellow, green and every colour in between. Small spheres floated in the matter that made up the contained phenomenon, spinning as they circled the biggest star in the center of the orb, dancing as if they were performing and he was their sole audience. It was a delightful little thing, a jewel."A family heirloom", his mother had whispered to him the day she placed it carefully into his small hands. "Keep it safe."He cherished it, guarded it - happy to be doing the very same thing his ancestors had done before him. It went with him wherever he went: when his family moved houses; when his family died and he moved out of that empty home with his wife; when he had to separate from his wife and children to join the long war.
