WildThing was discovered by Speck and Navarone in the woods that border Professor Dorianâ€™s estate. They had been told stories about WildThings their whole lives but had never seen a real one until that fateful day. Once they got to know him they discovered that none of the horrible things they had heard were true. WildThingsâ€™ were supposed to be diseased ridden lunatics who ensnared other living creatures by hypnotizing them with their hideous screams and then burry them alive in deep holes hidden beneath the forest floor. This WildThing was nothing like that. It lived in a damp cave whose walls were covered with climbing vines and its floors with a soft, phosphorescent moss. It spent most of itâ€™s time gathering flowers and plants. The only digging it did was for tubor roots, itâ€™s favorite food. The noises it made were quite meek, only the cave tended to amplify these sounds. When Speck and Navarone told the grownups about their discovery nobody believed them. They said WildThings were just make believe. Speck and Navarone visit their new friend whenever they can. They hope to learn where it came from, if there are any more and why it seems to be hiding in the cave. They plan on becoming the world experts in WildThings and hope someday to convince others that they are real and not to be afraid of them.
