"7 Bad Words. That's what they told us they were, remember? "That's a bad word!" There are no bad words. Bad thoughts. Bad intentions. And words.
You know the 7, don't you, that you can't say on television?"
George Dennis Patrick Carlin was born in Manhattan in the year 1937. He began his career in the '60s, moving to California shortly after in order to pursue comedy with a partner. Though that partnership didn't last, it began the long-running stand-up success he was soon to enjoy. 1970 was an eventful decade - his trademark Seven Words monologue caused uproar and even arrests, he hosted the first ever episode of SNL, and he began to do specials on HBO - despite the fact that he was suffered his first heart attack. Though his regular stand-up gigs slowed down considerably, he began to branch out in the 80s and 90s, appearing on everything from children's shows on PBS to movies to his own sitcom, the George Carlin Show, and also publishing his first hardcover, the astoundingly clever Brain Droppings. Towards the end of his life, Carlin suffered through many hardships. Despite his steady gig in Vegas at the MGM Grand, he was incredibly self-destructive, both insulting his own audience and abusing alcohol and drugs. Finally, he went to rehab for his addictions, only rejoining the tour circuit in 2006. He worked on several HBO Comedy Specials, his final being It's Bad for Ya, which eerily contained material that exclusively referenced death and the afterlife. George Carlin lost his life on June 22, 2008 due to a heart failure. Even after his death, however, he was given the Mark Twain Humor Prize, leaving continuous excellence as his final legacy.
"'Shit', 'Piss', 'Fuck',"
George Carlin was a comic with an incredibly long career, and his routines were always full of the wit and sarcasm he employed in his everyday conversations. Comic themes in his routines were the english language, politics, American culture, men and women, and observations on daily life. Carlin also spawned hundreds of one-liners, small thoughts like "atheism is a non-prophet organization" and "honesty is the best policy, but by elimination, dishonesty is the second-best policy". His best-known and most referenced bit, however, is his law-affecting Seven Dirty Words. This insanely clever routine, an excerpt of which is seen on this profile, focused on, well, swearing. These 'bad words' resulted in a storm of debate on the use of free speech after the excerpt was used on the radio. Immortalized as an asterisk in in our laws, Carlin's humor still comes through as true and amusing, a model citizen for those who enjoy swearing, making people laugh, and generally being a disruptive truant.
"'Cunt', 'CockSucker', 'MotherFucker'," George Carlin was - and, to be honest, still is - one of my favorite comedians. I stumbled upon him when I was fairly young, and though I had to buy and read his books and stand-up routines in secret, he was a major inspiration. Comedy has always been a way to express opinions that may not be accepted otherwise. As I grew up in a highly religious household with rather stiff republican beliefs, it was hard to be myself and figure out who I was outside those confines. Humor itself is a wonderful tool for breaking down walls, whether they're built between countries or just people. I still thank Mr. Carlin for speaking his mind in the most approachable way possible, breaking the law, and calling out society on the bull it still tries to feed itself. This profile and pet is a small tribute to a man whose wit could never be restrained or censored. Whether he's above, smiling down at us, below, screaming up at us, or at the public bathroom stall he always planned to spend his afterlife in, he can never be forgotten right here.
"and 'Tits'. Those are the heavy seven. Those are the ones that'll infect your soul, curve your spine, and keep the country from winning the war."

George Carlin: R.I.P. 1937-2008
Profile by Pinto. Overlay by monsters. Small tribute here compiled by me - no humor due to the fact that all my jokes would have sucked compared to even Carlin's brain farts/droppings.
