A boundless downward spiral to prospective void
Existence takes its toll, extinction unfolds
The Colossus falls back from its threshold
1985
Slowly he got up and even though he tried his best to stay quiet he wasn't able to hold back the short groan that left his throat. His head was spinning like mad and it was as if he felt every single bone in his body. Luckily his old man had already left for work so this time Sven wouldn't have to worry about a "da capo", as he called it. When he finally was up on his feet he noticed the blood running out of his nose. He impatiently rubbed it off with the sleeve of his shirt, grabbed both his jacket and walkman and left the apartment. Out on the street he closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath, then he moved on as fast as he was able to after his joyride - unfortunately not fast enough to escape his thoughts...
He was six when his father beat him up for the first time and, as far he recalled it, it was for coming home late from playing outside with his best friend. Well, at least way back there was a reason. Sven still remembered every hit, every curse word and the look on his father's face who didn't seem to be himself anymore in this moment. Short after he apologized with tears in his eyes, promising that he would never lose his temper again and Sven, who always regarded his father as some sort of hero, happily believed him...or more precisely he wanted to believe. Soon it became apparent that his hopes were deceived and from this day on it felt like his parents didn't have three kids, but two and a punching bag. The reason for that, if there was any, his father kept a secret and Sven really didn't feel like asking either.
Finally he reached his destination, a small playground only a few blocks away from his house. His best friend was already there, waiting for him. The two boys greeted each other with a short, and what they thought to be manly, hug and when this ritual was over Sven noticed the knowing and sad smile on the other one's face. He smiled back and shook his head. "Don't worry about me," he then said "I'm going to survive. And I promise you that when I leave one day it'll be for good."
