"You'll never touch a rainbow," her mother had told her. "You may as well give up! You'll never catch that rainbow!" her dad had chided. The kids at school, too, laughed and told her it was impossible. Niwien never believed them. She worked hard every day, training her body to be the fastest it could be. She read and studied hard every day, learning about magic and physics and all those other subjects that might help her in her quest. ANd one day...one day she got her chance!The spring rain had just stopped falling, and the clouds were beginning to break. There it was! A rare, perfect double rainbow! With a delighted cry, Niwien took off toward the end of the rainbow. She ran and ran as fast as she could, galloping over the wet grass and damp stones. They cut her feet, made them sting, but she didn't notice. She looked up to see how near she was, and to her horror the rainbow was vanishing! "No! Please, don't go!" But the rainbow paid her no mind as it went about its business of dissolving into the sun. Desperate, she cried a half-remembered spell. Was...was the rainbow getting more solid? It was! She redoubled her efforts to reach the rainbow's tail.Niwien isn't exactly sure what happened next. Somehow, she caught the rainbow. It was warm, and soft. She heard tiny laughter and tinkling bells. I seemed like years she spent inside the rainbow. When it finally disappeared, she was back in the wet meadow. She was almost disappointed. Fighting back tears, she looked down at her feet. What was this? They were white! She lifted a paw, tracing it through the air in marvel. Everywhere her paw went, tiny rainbows followed! So it hadn't been a dream! It hadn't been for nothing! How wonderful! Tail and head high, Niwien turned her steps toward home. She'd show them!
