CelticRain's Story

She lived all her life working various jobs as a cleaner, laundry service, and helping the elderly. She never made much money, but she actually managed to save a lot of it.

Every week she would add to her savings fund because she had one big dream (goal, rather) in mind.

That goal was driven by a movie she saw once as a child. It was a movie about a lady who, after losing her family chose to move far away and start a new life in on the other side of the ocean, that being Europe (France to be exact). Celtic was enthralled with the idea of making a residence in an exotic, foreign land somewhere so far away from her. However, she wasn't crazy about France so much, and didn't want to learn French, but Italian on the other hand really excited her. She loved the smoothly flowing but strong accent that she heard from the people she watched from time to time on the Italian channel. And thought it would be fun to learn the language herself.

And, the country itself! Well, it had hot regions that were Mediterranean in nature, and it also had areas (farther North) in which it snows! Celtic thought this was so amazing and liked the idea of having both options, because, unlike most people, although she loved hot weather, she also loved the snow! And to think that she would be so close to all those other beautiful countries bordering Italy and so on was also truly exciting for her.

So, her savings was going towards her eventual move to Italy. But Celtic didn't just want to move to Italy and work for someone else again, as she had been doing most of her life (she was now 32 yrs old), she wanted to kind of make her mark, and establish her own little corner of the Italian world. Her dream was to be "Il Fioraio" (which means, "The Florist" ) and open up a flower shop!

She knew a little about flowers, growing up with a mother who planted and grew some in a garden every summer. She could spend hours marveling at the colours, shapes and various characteristics that made each one species very unique. She couldn't pick a favourite, not one was more beautiful than the other, even those prickly, bloom-less ones that didn't appeal to anyone else. She always found something unique and special about them all that appealed to her in one way or another.

She decided, that she wanted a garden in her own little nook somewhere in Italy, but in order to make a living she would have to perhaps sell some in beautiful bouquets for those people who simply wanted a glimpse of beauty to cherish for a short time or share with a loved one. And for those who wanted more she would sell the bulbs and seedlings and other gardening tools to help cultivate their own little floral paradise.
New Growth

After all, there are so many flowers that grow, Dahlias being her favorite to care for, (she had her own little patch on a couple of window boxes outside her apartment in Canada), that she knew would flourish best by being frequently clipped, each time clipping left a new place for a bud to burst into a larger and more robust flower (she was very good at this). She liked to treat her friends to lovely bouquets whenever she was invited for a social gathering.

So this was Celtic's ultimate plan; she spent her extra time taking Italian lessons on tape, and constantly studying her Italian text book and dictionary, and also learning about exotic and foreign flowers from Italy and abroad. Through her studies she learned more of the particular regions and cities in Italy, and in turn discovered the best place for her to start her journey there.

Overgrown Ledger

I will not state exactly where Celtic decided to settle down, as that would take away the mystery and adventure of it all, but I will say that she was careful to choose a place in which she was just right in the middle of the two different climates she wanted to be able to experience. And incredibly close to the water!

Her "Negozio di Fiori" ("Flower Shop" ) is now well established. She has a beautiful lush garden fenced into her property and grows and cultivates various seeds and bulbs from it on a monthly basis.

She is often finding herself (frantically) concentrating on her beautiful and bountiful bouquets a few times a year as she likes to enter in floral display shows and contests around Italy.

She has mostly mastered the spoken Italian word, although it was quite difficult to try to speak it to the very experienced fluent natives of Italy, who just speak too fast fro her at times. And has become a well known the "straniero fioritura", or, "Flowering Foreigner", which is an endearing term, of course ;)
