Thaumas was a great king for many, many years.
He lived at the top of the tallest peak of the North, where he could watch over his kingdom. There was no question why the humans decided that this dragon should be king. He was the last of the dragons in the entire realm. Why not have him on your side?

The dragons were all destroyed a few centuries back, except for Thaumas. Thaumas was different. He had powers beyond any other dragon's ability. In his younger days, Thaumas had a brother. Cairn had the same powers Thaumas had, however he was not nearly as wise. He was foolish, and in the end, he was destroyed along with the other dragons.

Thaumas had been discovered by those seeking out his power. They were a small group of mages; very old mages. They realized there was a strange power radiating from the mountain Thaumas lived on, however they had no idea that a dragon was its source. They reached the peak, and noticed a strange glow emerging from a cave. The old men wandered inside, and stumbled across a sleeping Thaumas. He was the most beautiful frost dragon, with scales the color of snow. He had shimmering diamonds along his wings, tail, snout, and arms. His giant pink and blue wings were indeed unique for a frost dragon. He had a brilliant golden mane, and had horns the same color that seemed to be made of diamond as well. Once the mages finished staring as his beauty, they realized a giant glowing blue orb was next to him. This orb seemed to be the source of all of the power coming from the mountain.

The old men began talking amongst themselves about what to do about the situation. Little did they know, Thaumas was no longer asleep. He opened one of his eyes to peak at the old men, and slowly moved the orb closer to him. The old men left Thaumas and walked back down the mountain. Thaumas flew up to the peak of the mountain to make sure that the old men were not planning anything and were going home.

Thaumas was indeed a very old dragon, but as long as he had his orb, he felt just as powerful as he had in his younger years. The old men figured this was the case, as they had heard stories of Cairn. Cairn was supposed to have been the most powerful dragon, who started a rebellion once the humans started killing his species. Cairn alone destroyed half of the realm before he was killed. The second the life fled from his body, Cairn's orb lost all of its power.

The mages returned to the cave the next day, however Thaumas was not in it. He knew better than to go back to a place that humans had gone to. The men brought with them vast amounts of treasures. They brought Thaumas all of the gold from their kingdom, hoping to make a truce with him. They called out for Thaumas, who was listening near by. They said they wanted Thaumas to be their protector, as a war was starting in the realm. They swore they would protect Thaumas if he in turn swore to protect them as well.

Thaumas flew down to the cave, startling the old men and nearly causing one of them to feint. Then, Thaumas spoke for the first time in centuries. "Why would I, brother of Cairn, help you mere mortals? The same mortals that killed every last one of my species?" The mages talked with Thaumas for hours, each having their own bit of wisdom to share. The men left Thaumas with all of their gold, and Thaumas was still undecided on what to do.

A few weeks had passed, and Thaumas was awoken to explosions and the sounds of metal clinging together. He looked down from his mountain and saw that the mages were right. The war had finally broken out. Thaumas could actually make out the old men amongst the people fighting. He knew it was wrong to leave those poor men down there when they were so greatly outnumbered.

Thaumas let out the loudest roar he had let out since Cairn was still around. Everything on the battlefield came to a stop, and everyone looked at the sky, trying to figure out where the noise came from. Thaumas flew up into the air, let out another roar, and began absorbing power from his orb. The diamond shards on his body were glistening in the sunlight, and as he absorbed more power, the shards got brighter. They eventually became a beautiful blue/pink tint, as he had absorbed the maximum power. He flew towards the battlefield, and looked over at the old men. One of them was on his knees, as if thanking Thaumas for helping them.

The enemy soon realized what was happening, and began attacking Thaumas. They began firing cannons, arrows, and even throwing spears in his direction. At this sight, his new kingdom continued attacking the enemy while they were focussed on Thaumas. Thaumas let out another roar as he approached the enemy, and fired an icy blast in their direction. The front line of the battlefield was now frozen solid. Thaumas liked the idea of this, and continued to freeze the rest of the enemy's army, until they were an army of ice.

From that day on, Thaumas left the enemy's army frozen, to ward off any other humans that might want to harm his new friends. If anyone dare start an attack on his kingdom, they would have to look the other frozen soldiers in their eyes before making it to his walls. The mages who had found him continued to bring him treasures everyday since that battle, and declared him on that day to be King of the North.
