It was early in the morning and my alarm went off, beeping in my ears. It was Saturday, and I'd totally forgotten to turn the alarm off the day before. Startled, I fell out of bed and fell flat on my face. I'm not the most coordinated Telenine in the world, but I mannage.

After making sure that my fangs weren't chipped, I got up from the floor and immediately started looking for my hat. It's brown, with corks dangling by thin, leather chords all around the wide brim. I love that hat. I wear it every day. My father gave it to me when I decided... But, that's all anyone needs to know about him. I'm not ashamed of him, not at all, I just don't like talking about him to people... Wait, I was talking about my hat, right?

So, I looked in the usual spot, on my bedpost, it wasn't there. Then I looked by my bed, under the bed, all around the room... Finally, I just took out my pendulum. I try not to rely on the dousing skills my mother taught me for finding things for myself too much, but desperate times call for desperate measures. I hate being without my hat... OK, more like I can't properly start my day without my hat. My head feels weird uncovered and vulnerable...

I held my pendulum before me by its long tether, concentrating my magical energy into it and concentrating on the item I wanted to find...my hat. I felt the pendulum sway a little, then I felt it pulling strongly toward my bedroom door. I followed the trail, continuing to concentrate. From the door, the pendulum pulled straight down the hall, toward the stairs down to the living room. The pull became stronger and stronger as I approached the stairs, then climbed down. When I reached the bottom of the stairs, I noticed the pendulum was now pulling strongly toward the couch. I ran to it, pushing the cushions out of the way... There it was! My hat! It had fallen off the night before and gotten lost under a throw pillow!

I straightened my hat out a little and placed it on my head. All was right with the world now. My day could finally start...as long as Vincent hadn't eaten all of the Cinna-Blob cereal again. I always eat Cinna-Blob on Saturdays...
