Alayus was born from the realm of nightmares. His existence before this one is full of hazy memories of despair and aimless wandering. When Baki The Eternal summons creatures from the nightmare realm to wreak havoc on Subeta, Alayus was one of the thousands of nightmares to come bursting onto the scene. While many nightmare creatures were exterminated or banished back to their realm, Alayus is approached by a hunter, named Kaisa, while he was injured. When she touched him and tried to comfort him rather than kill him, he 'wakes up' from his former existence as a creature of nightmares and becomes a creature of wordly existence.

Alayus was the first pet Kaisa ever brought home, wrapped clumsily in her arms as she stumbled through the threshold of her home. She placed him on the sofa and treated his wounds. His nightmarish aura dissipated and, while his eyes are still dark, have a sort of light to them that only a curious, lively animal would have. He quickly grew close to Kaisa and helped her on her bounty missions for a while before he took a liking to reading and learning.

He's not very strong in his dormant state and prefers to keep it that way. He's terrified of losing control and is always reading up different ways to keep his powers in check and his identity under wraps (as nightmare pets are seen as dangerous). When his owner invites more pets into her home, Alayus greets them kindly, but mostly keeps to himself. Vitalia is the only one who knows of his secret and is his confidant when it comes to running the household while Kaisa is away.

Alayus typically feigns being a Twilight Demi by dying his underfur (still holds a ghostly green hue) and mane. He keeps his horn in a solid shape as well. He wears purple contacts to conceal his dark eyes. He doesn't however deal with the purple highlights that come with the breed of Demi, saying that he's simply a mutation, and didn't get those markings when he was born.
