Vara was once a Voodoo witch.
She made many a deal with the devil, and eventually her contract expired.
But when he came to collect her soul, he found that he could not, for she was beautiful to him.
Instead of reaping her spirit, he made one last deal. He would indeed come for her, but not before her beauty melted away and she withered with age.
She had no choice but to agree and the devil left, marking her for the day of his return.
Vara turned away from the dealings of Voodoo magic, and taught herself the science of herbal healing.
She now lives her life waiting for the day when the devil will come to take her away.
