Etikur

Thick, pale objects jabbed down into the home. There was some sort of babble and manical laughter from above. Etikur, the little pup that he was, was completely and utterly disoriented. Why everyone was screaming and running around frantically, he was unsure of. Because of this, he did the only thing he could think of, the thing that he always did when it came time. He hid in his tin can. A small can, quite old and rusted, but it still served it's duty. Shielding him from whatever was happening above, he turned to face the closed end, not wanting to see everyone scatter. Minutes passed, although it felt like days. Popping his head out of the can, he looked.

No one. Everyone had left. Mother, Father, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins.
All gone. He scanned the blades of grass which had sheltered him for so long.
They were torn up, leaving some parts patchy, others bare. He lifted a paw and clutched onto the center stone in his necklace. This was the first time he was ever alone. He slowly crawled out of the can, and got abruptly on his hind legs, to see if anyone was in view from up there. No dwarf rats did he see, but a very large, very strange figure. He had to be at least 200 times the size of little Etikur.
"What a very strange rat..But,.. that's not a rat.. Look,.. he's only got fur on his head. It's not a bird either, certainly not a fish. No scales or feathers. What is he wearing? Why a long coat to cover the body?" he thought.
He scanned the figure further, and took note that three of Etikur himself would make up the size of it's "paw". Etikur lifted his head higher, to try to catch a faint scent of any rodent nearby, but to no avail. Getting back down on all fours, he knew there was nothing he could do, but move on. The necklace was all he owned, so it wasn't quick before he began trotting off into the field, in the opposite direction of that mysterious thing. It was to his own luck, that Etikur was the adventurous type. He had no problem being independent, and loved a good turn in his life. The only problem though, is since he was so naive, he had no idea how serious this situation really was. I traveled in a straight line, and before he knew it, the sun had set. His stomach gurgled, and he realized how much he yearned food. He was so far away from "home" though,.. where was he to find any? Instincts kicked in, and he began to run faster, following the scent of anything edible. He quickly came to a halt, when he realized that he was no longer surrounded by the grass that he knew. His pawpads were on something new, cold and gray. It was similar to dirt, but a harder texture and certainly not as fun to play in.

As confused as he was, his stomach was more important. He continued to follow the small, but wary about his surroundings. Giant things made of something similar to tin, with circles that pushed them along. They were noisy too, and very fast. Making sure it was safe to cross, he darted with ease over some, well he wasn't sure, but he darted. Picking up speed as the smell got closer, he saw something that looked familiar.
Just like his tin can at home, only bigger, and not on it's side. The smell of food was coming from inside. Looking around, he managed to jump on a few random things, and reach the opening of this can. Popping his head inside, he noticed a variety of smells. Edible things he had never smelt, things that didn't smell so good, and things that kind of reminded him of the smell of that creature with no hair. He put his head in further, and found a brown squishy peel, but still with some remnants of a fruit. Pulling out the peel with his giant teeth, he lurched down back onto the strange black covering. He licked inside the peel, tasting the sweet, yet expired sour taste of the banana. To him, it was endlessly delightful. Engrossing himself into this peel, he only stopped to hear a sharp noise of the can falling directly in front of him. He grabbed his food and scampered back to his grass, not looking to see what made it fall.

Tugging it along behind him, he had made it to the grass at ease. He continue to feast until his stomach was satisfied. He found a small intent in the dirt. Curling his tail around him, he began to drift off to sleep.

He awoke to very loud sounds again, of those giant things with wheels.
"They're so noisy..." he said aloud.
"Tell me about it." said a mysterious voice.
This was a softer, more beautiful voice unlike Etikur had ever heard before. Turning his head to see, he saw a bird, bigger than him but not threatening. Her feathers were a pale teal and orange, and her eyes sparkled in the morning light. He couldn't help but stare at her, and quickly found himself with a million and one questions.
"Who are you?" He had to ask, it was killing him to know. The small bird tweeted a happy note and looked at the rodent acquaintance. "My name is like the wind in between your ears, or Wyra."
Etikur smiled, and want to ask her many more things. Where was she from? Why was she here? Why was she talking to him? She answered a few. She was just from the giant oak tree in the square, nowhere new. She loved adventure, and always wanted to have a friend unlike any other, so she'd figured she'd give him a shot. She preened herself, her feathers glistening along with the dew. Etikur's stomach growled. Although he had eaten that banana, it was the only thing in his little body. Wyra looked at him, and chirped again.
"You're a silly little fellow,"she said, still tweeting her little heart out,"So, you're hungry? Hop on my back, I know a place." She cooed, and then jumped 180°, so now that her back was facing him.

Etikur was nearly dumbfounded that she was being so friendly, but he quickly climbed on her back. When he did, he realized how small he really was. Wyra spread her wings, and began to lift off the ground. Etikur held on tighter, only leaving the ground for the first time last night to get the banana peel. He looked below him. Those scary, loud things with wheels looked a lot smaller than before, and less scary. But still scary. So many things looked interesting to him from up here. The can of food looked like a target, he wanted to fall right down and see where he would land. Luckily, he knew better than that. Turning his direction to ahead, he saw what she was talking about.

There was a giant square, but it had clear things which you could look into. The closer they got, the more it smelt like the gross, hairless creature from yesterday. "If she's brave, then me too!" he thought. It was good that he liked exploring, otherwise he'd be without food. Wyra aimed her smooth flight directly to a small bowl, that was lifted off the ground.
Etikur noticed a familiar smell. Seeds. Wyra perched on the edge of the buffet for two, and Etikur climbed off carefully. He looked at all that was in front of him. Seeds of all kind. Sunflower, tomato, pumpkin. He felt like he was in heaven. Wasting no time, he dug his little paws into the bowl of wonderful, and began eating, cracking the larger shells with his teeth. Wyra herself was dining, although much more quieter than he. He was throwing the empty shells all over the place. His stomach was filling faster than ever before, his satiety was overwhelming.

After their fill, Etikur climbed on her back again, and she noticed he weighed more than before. "So, now what!?" he cooed. He was back to his alert, curious, normal giddy self. She cooed and looked at him. "Well, my friend. What is a day without adventure? That question should come with it's own answer, it goes without me saying. It's time to explore!"With these words, the fur on Etikur rose slowly. This was music to his ears. "Okay! he jeered. He was raring to go, and very excited about the day that lied ahead.

They did amazing things that day. Try to aim their "extras" at the noisy things with wheels below, trying to teach each other their own ways of life, making little swords out of wood(she carved them with her beak).
They sword fought with them, and he had won every time. As the day drug on, their energy slowly died out. Around sunset they set on a small hill, talking to each other. Talking about who they were, and where they were from. The more they talked, the more irresistible Etikur found her. As the night neared it's way closer, so did the hearts of these two new friends.

He then realized. Where was he to sleep from now on? He couldn't go back to his old home, there wasn't any reason to. He looked at Wyra. "Um. Not to be rude, Miss, but... Where should I sleep at for the nights following now?" he was trying his hardest to be polite, but really wanted her to say he could stay with her. She turned her head to look at him, and chirped. "Well, I live in a birdhouse I found not too far from here. It's pretty spacey, so as long as you don't mind not having a free range, you can stay there thru the nights, with me." He looked at her, and if he hadn't had furry cheeks, you could see how much they were flushing with a reddish tint. He nodded, and agreed entirely. As the moon rose, and he hopped on her back again and they flew to a little birdhouse, suspended by a branch of a smaller oak tree, right by his old home.

They were now inseparable, Etikur and his Wyra.
