he was a part of this group of dragon hunters that went and killed dragons to keep the ruling kingdom (Arcturus) from using them in war, because his family (wife, son) was killed in said war.
But when he killed the last dragon, it placed some kind of curse on him, that kept him from aging, but also turned him into a dragon shifter.
So he has to find a way to break the curse by finding another dragon. he cannot die unless slain in dragon form, which he rarely takes (its painful for him to do; essentially every bone in his body breaks at once and reforms)
