Φ Hemlata, he is a bold merfolk, often teasing and stalking fishermen's boats. Sneaking fish from the nets as they're drawn up, as many as he can grab through the holes that fish can't swim through themselves. That's If the holes are big enough, if not he will cut one that will be... This often causes a lot of trouble when the weight of the fish causes the nets to rip right open and the men lose their catch. Hemlata he does not mean to harm them, he doesn't really understand that what he is doing can potentially be harmful. Not just to the men who fish, but possibly himself. To him it is just an easy way to eat and a fun game to play with the humans. It is because of his actions that he has been named Hemlata.
He rather adores and admires the human race. They can be up above the water, Hemlata fears being above water. He is afraid of breathing their air for some undefinable reason, and he fears the land they walk on. The thought of being buried alive frightens him, even if the fear is relatively unrealistic. The water is where he belongs and as much as he loves people, he had no urge to be with them. Even if he has the ability to shift and appear human. Even if he had some wild idea of going up to the two-legged land walkers, he wouldn't be able to communicate with them anyway. At least not verbally. Hemlata is a mute, his vocal capacity for human speech is rather undeveloped. Though he is able to emit sounds that mimic dolphins and whales, he is even capable of some sonar. This ability is more part of the brain than a sound that comes from the throat. It is usually used to find fish hidden in the sand, or at a far distance.
Like other merfolk, Hemlata's blood is magical. It grants the drinker or those exposed to him the illusion of immortality. It can greatly decrease the aging process of a person, and in fact make them more youthful, over a long period of time. This ability isn't instant and the taster wont realize it unless he's around the mer for long periods of time. Basically a lick or two, or even a gulp wont affect the receiver instantly, though it is faster than simply being in his presence.
Mortal wounds, poisons, and extreme cold and heat will and can kill him. Just like any human or fish. An additional weakness is being suspended half way out of water (with the upper body out of the water), in his merform he relies heavily on oxygen from the water and can suffocate if left suspended too long.Φ
[big]In no way does this property regress a person's mentality. It is only a physical change. A person's mind stays intact, and perhaps, the character of their own will feels encouraged to behave more youthful. In no way does this ability regresses the body to infantile or other under aged bodies.[/big]
He's a Warhammar Fantasy inspired character.
Φ He is but a creation of mythical proportions. His body sculpted from the clay and essence of water by one of the many gods of Ind. A country that is part of Warhammar Fantasy. Though as far as Hem is concerned he has always existed, and has never had a name until people of Ind had given him one (even then it took him a long time before he realized it). What use is a name when it did not give him food? Names don't hunt down fish, and his favorite, baby octopuses. Names don't amuse him, and they don't keep him company. However, people of Ind did, they fed him, talked to him, and they were more fun to watch and tease.
In Ind, creatures like Hemlata are treated as gods, they believe that is what he is... Some mystical god, or at least a very important celestial being. Just like the beastmen of the surrounding Jungles, or other amazing and most certainly inhuman creatures. Even so, Hemlata doesn't entirely realize this- he doesn't realize that the reason they leave food by the water is because he's viewed as a sacred creature. He only views it as them being nice, that they want him to have their food. Φ
Bodily Descriptions: Merman
Φ This body is slender- lean to the bone (haha song ref). Since Hemlata is always on the move when he is awake, his body doesn't have the time to produce any fat. His healthy diet of aquatic creatures also helps. Occasionally he might have human food- but it isn't often. Too much of it is likely to make him sick. His skin is tan, he isn't into living DEEP under water, he is a warm water fish after all; and likes living closer to the ever terrifying surface. Water that is freezing cold often leads a slow death.
His hair is extremely long, only because it has never been cut. The sheen is golden with an undertone of gold-fish orange and flows with a loose wave like water. Complimented by translucent yellowish gold finned ears. It sprouts up and closely resembles fancy gold fish fins in fact that is what Hemlata is. He's a gold fish. Acclimated to both fresh and salt water (To accommodate a wide variety of scenes). Hemlata has gills on both sides of his neck, three short slits positioned like this ≡ and are of equal length. In between his fingers is a thin yellowy translucent membrane, or webbing as most would call it. It's similar in color to his ears and tail. As for his nails, they're short and dull. Due to the fact that I take in a realistic consideration of how they'd be in water. If he were to spend more time on land, the strength of his nails will improve.
Down along Hemlata's tail, one would notice that it is very shimmery, and well golden. With a yellowy sheen and an underlying color of orange. It sparkles (mostly in the sun) because Hemlata takes care of it, he spends much of his unspoken time cleaning his scales and tending to his long hair. It and his hair are his pride. The fin of his tail parts in a traditional Y shape, often associated with fish. It is also translucent, and the color is golden yellow-orange. From his head to the base of the tail, just before we get to the fin, he is five feet and three inches long. The fin adds an additional three feet. In this form, he is incredibly fast.

Short version: He's a mischievous, naive, and playful. Yet intelligent and semi-feral minded merman with a unquenchable zest for life.
Φ Hemlata's mind is semi-feral in nature, he lives with out laws or a defined notion between right and wrong. He is childish, and everything to him is game or survival. Curious in nature, playful, rarely does he take things too seriously. Words are hard for him to understand, and often he'll simply interpret the sounds that come from them. This is because he has spent all his life around humans listening to them from underwater. However, this doesn't mean he can't learn to understand words more precisely. But it isn't something that happens over night or even with in a few weeks (rp time).
His attention span is also rather short, at times he may seem every engaged with someone- at least until a fish or something comes by that could steal his attention. Even a glimmer of a shiny object will have him diving away with out warning to go on what would be a very exciting adventure. No matter what it is he finds. Everything is treasure for at least a few seconds if not longer.
Affectionate, he can be very affectionate, and in fact he may choose to show his feelings in all sorts of ways. If he were your average boy in school, he'd most certainly be the one to stick gum in the desired one's hair. He would bug them relentlessly, hounding after their attention because he feels he deserves it. He wants it, and he certainly under any circumstance will have it. The catch is... It may just be a fleeting romance, his feelings could change just as fast as the weather at sea. For example, he could be fairly relentless with his pursuits one day and then the next day he may not even show much interest. If not already focusing his attention on someone, or something else (This is mostly for interactions in public rooms, personal rps with actual stories his affections would grow into a more honest romance. In fact, in public rooms all his attention is focused on having fun and being curious).
Ah, Patience. Hemlata isn't a patient fish, and he's fairly manipulative too (mostly for food, if he feels that he can get away with talking you into giving him a free meal, he'll sure do his best to wrangle the person in). For his own good, he just maybe too trusting.. Naturally he is weary of anything that comes across as threatening. Maybe even become suspicious of even a sweet face, but he can't help it if he can't see a flaw in that sweetness, the kindness he so craves. Showered with attention- his barriers will go down all with the help of his curiosity...
One could say that in many aspects, he's naive, and even sheltered... Yet, even as he experiences more of the world; his child like wonder seems to be as resilient as gold. Hemlata is a being that is neither evil nor is he good. Aligning in chaotic neutrality at best. Φ

Φ Hemlata has a magic ability that is unique to him, but it doesn't have a name, because he hasn't thought to name it. But it is the ability to create a sound, a sound that mimics both a voice and an instrument but lacks the basic quality of both. It is a sound that expresses emotions in the form of music... It can be used to express happiness, sadness, anger, warning, and even disappointment. He can even learn to manipulate this ability to mimic works, the same way one would a guitar or any other instrument. Someday, perhaps he may even learn how to refine it to create the real sounds of words. After all, when everyone around him can communicate, and he can't they'll have one jealous and very determined fish. He'll find some way- some how to try and communicate beyond the sounds of Dolphin/Whale sounds, gestures, and expressions that he has learned to use. Φ
