Clever Vergoldet was the first to take up residency in the vacant house left in Veta by Hanne's mentor. When the young alchemist arrived he found she had set up shop in the attic and her screeching told him she had no intent of leaving. She cajoled and led him into letting her stay. When she wants to, she can speak like a senate delegate. Using her silver tongue to manipulate others, she ensures she gets her way. Half the time, she wins because it is easier to say 'yes' to her than to listen to her whittle at you for an hour. No one wants her on their back. This too she knows, and takes advantage of. She has laid claim to much of the furniture in the house and generally rules the roost. Upon meeting new people, she's careful to analyze them for weaknesses. She only offers flattery to those she finds use for. However, she feels no affection for them; if she admires anyone, it is actually those who see through her, and refuse to bow to her demands. These people, of course, want nothing to do to her, so she flits from her goons to her haters and back again, endlessly looking for attention.

Superficial
Her fickle nature extends to objects. Vergoldet desires an opulent lifestyle; to live in the perceived lap of luxury is her singular goal. She approves and rejects what enters her life based on posted values, and openly looks down on tarnished goods. Sometimes, she is fooled by those craftier than she is into taking home overpriced, status-buying crap. However, devious creature that she is, she seeks out cheap, inferior materials on purpose. She clutters her space with these. More is better, even if it is worth less, because the eye is drawn by bulk and volume. And, she thinks, if she associates with enough gullible people, she can pass off garbage as gold.

Scammer
Vergoldet maintains a small shop out of the cottage, where she offloads items scavenged from dumps and trash cans. She buffs them up and markets them as upcycled or vintage, or rare, early-production one offs from broken molds. She sells nothing for less than 50k. When she isn't speaking like a senator, she's speaking like a used car salesman. Unfortunately, a slick presentation can take in unwary passersby. Vergoldet's business is doing fine. Hannes shamelessly collects rent from her and uses it to fund what his mentor doesn't.
