Character Art and Pet Overlay by Trippy

Intro: Adam Cunningham

His head tilted to one side as he studied the freshly shoveled dirt. A small smirk of satisfaction spread itself upon his worn and tanned face. The man flipped his aviators down to his the bridge of his nose from his brown hair and turned his back leaving. As he walked upon the mossy grass to the exit of the cemetery, he waved backwards and laughed manically. The burgundy and black lilies he had placed at her grave rustled from the icy breeze. “Ready sir?” a respective chauffer asked. After tucking in the white blouse of his suit, and straightening his black jacket, he nodded in approval. The chauffer opened the limo’s door and the man slid in.

“Congratulations Mr. Cunningham” a fat man said holding up a wine glass with the red alcoholic contents almost spilling. “Oops, we’ve got to be a bit more careful there.” He said steadying the glass with both hands. He smiled and took a rather large sip and set the glass down. The man looked pitifully at his partner and gave him an odd look before snatching a glass himself.

“Goddamnit Peter!” he said uselessly tossing the glass at the far end of the limo. Peter choked on his drink and knocked himself in the chest a few times.

“What is it now?!” he screamed eyes bulging.

“You just had to take all of the fucking wine didn’t you?!” Mr. Cunningham accused pointing to the empty bottle on the floor. Peter flinched and said nothing. “Perhaps that accounts for why you’re overweight?” his voice grew humorous.

“That has got nothing to do with it,” the fat man said wiping his mouth sloppily with the back of his sleeve. They were both wearing the same suit.

“Well, that was my favorite year and my last bottle at that. It was supposed to be celebratory, but you drank it all. Therefore I can’t celebrate.” The fat man swallowed another small sip.

“I’ll go purchase another bottle for you later then.” And with that he finished of his wine and let out a satisfactory sigh. “I’m sorry Adam.” He said again looking down, it should be the least of your worries, I mean concerning the murder and all.”

“Listen Peter, I do not wish to discuss the murder with you, I’ve had my chance at gloating and so have you. So its best if you stop now and watch what you say. You seem to leak more than a broken faucet these days and I am tired of saving your ass when it eventually comes back to bite you.”

“Alright alright.” Peter said pulling of his watch. He shoved it inside of his pocket and soothed his wrist.

Kitchen Secrets

Adam stepped out of the vehicle from a sizable looped driveway in front of a large house. It was far to ample for a single man to dwell in but, he liked it there despite his views on living modestly. The foliage and shrubbery protruded messily from a once neatly-pruned yard. Some ivy did climb the side walls of the home. The growth appeared to be the product of 10 or so years of missed attention. He stepped heavily up the staircase to the double front doors as the vehicle drove away with Peter inside. Adam carried a velvet sack in his left hand. He unlocked the doors and stepped inside.

The place felt humid, dark and dank while the air smelled of mold. Despite the cleanliness of the interior, it did not reflect the outside. He walked to the kitchen, which was down a flight of stairs and opened a chest freezer. There were four or so, but with a home as big as this- you must expect to entertain on a regular basis......which, Adam did not...He pushed aside some wrapped things and squished the fragile package of velvet in the center of the chest; letting the lid "thunk" as he recoiled. He peered around and decided to clean up. He, after all, was the only resident of the Cunningham Estate.

His breakfast from earlier sat, half-eaten, beside a crude butcher's knife. "Well, mustn't let this go to waste," he mumbled; and with that he scooped up the bowl's contents with a spoon and begin to finish it. The red jellied substance made one of the most awful sounds as it slid and jiggled from his spoon to his parted lips. Some of the contents missed his intended goal and plopped upon his suit. Noticing this, he gave no further attention too, and ignored them. A napkin was dabbed at his mouth and the bowl was set in the large washing basin. He then proceeded to wash the dirty dishes that had accumulated from so many days.

After doing so, the last few items were left. One-by-one, he carefully amassed a hatchet, butcher's knife, several other serrated knives, a band saw, saw blade and metal skewers beside the sink in a pile. Some of the blade's edges needed sharpening and individual cleaning. He would get to that eventually, but first- he had to prepare supper...
