"How dare he treat me like that! I am not just some - some girl who knows not what she's doing or how she feels! I do feel a love toward him, not toward just some thought of him, as he says! Even though I do not know why I feel this way - not when he treats me this way. Just because he is Aragorn - brave, strong, good Aragorn - that does not mean he has the right to tell me I cannot fight. I may be a woman, but that does not mean I do not feel loyalty toward my land, nor does it mean that I lack the courage or the ability to fight for it."

Unbeknownst to all, Eowyn continued to prepare to fight, and when the time came, she was there with the other Riders, disguised in the armor of her people of Rohan. She would prove Aragorn wrong; she would prove everyone wrong.

.........

"Merry. You too have been told you cannot. I do not believe it. Stay quiet, and whatever happens, stay with me. I will look after you."Eowyn scooped Merry up onto her horse in front of her, and away they went toward battle.

.........

"You fool. No man can kill me. Die now." The Witch-King held Eowyn by the throat - she could feel the life leaving her - this could not happen - not like this, not in battle, she could not let everyone be right - when -
"AHHHH!" Merry came screaming from behind them and stabbed the Witch-King in the back with his short little dagger. The Witch-King shrieked and fell to his knees, releasing Eowyn from his grasp. She quickly picked herself back up and stood facing him. In his full view, she pulled off her helm and let her long blond hair settle around her shoulders.
"I am no man."
And with that simple sentence, she raised her blade and thrust it into the space where the Witch-King's face would be if he had had one; with a turn of her wrist, she twisted the sword in a circle, causing the Nazgul to scream in agony. With a sudden burst of light, he imploded.

.........

Eowyn was still in shock. Against all odds, they had succeeded! The Fellowship had provided enough distraction for Frodo and Sam to complete their quest to destroy the One Ring; Mordor had crumbled and Sauron had been defeated. Aragorn was being restored to his rightful throne, and now Eowyn knew he had been right, in a way: she was not in love with him. Watching him with Arwen, she knew it to be true. And, standing beside Faramir, she knew what true, equal love felt like. She would always care for Aragorn, but with Faramir, she was not ashamed to be a woman. And she had proven that being a woman did not mean that she was fit only for staying behind. So maybe Aragorn had been right about one thing, but she had been right about another. She did have the ability to fight, and together with Merry, she had shown that you could not judge a person by one's gender, or by one's stature, or by any other such generality.
Yes, she was a woman. She was a strong, courageous, and remarkable woman. There was nothing that she could not do.
