This is all a v v rough draft, but here's a vague idea of what his character's going to be about.

Ravvi is one of a species of magical beings that represent various aspects of the natural world. They all have the ability to shapeshift, plus other abilities that vary based on what aspect they represent (i.e., Ravvi is the god of land-based fauna so he can comminucate with most animals and see through their eyes). They are immortal to an extent; they cannot die of old age or sickness. They can be killed, but will be reincarnated with no memories of their past lives. In the past, mankind occasionally mistook them for gods and some chose to take advantage of that, while others denied it and others were indifferent. Today, only fringe religions recognize them as gods, but are still respected because they are essential in keeping balance in the world (though some aspects are less popular than others.)

A note on death and reincarnation- Certain aspects are immune to certain things (i.e. the aspect of fire cannot be burned, the aspect of poison cannot be poisoned, aspects of water and sea life cannot drown) but all of them can die. Upon reincarnation, they will be reincarnated as the child of a random human couple. Some people consider it an honor to be an aspect's parents, while others consider it a curse.

Ravvi is the name his most recent set of parents gave him, but his aspect name is Cervus. Long ago, the aspects were embroiled in a war that upset the balance of the natural world. Aspects sided against each other (factions still being decided) and used their powers to fight and kill. Cervus used his power to turn animals against his enemies, making him one of the key players in the conflict. The war ended about two centuries ago, but not before Cervus was killed. The next Cervus was born in the devestating wake of the war. This Cervus was far more gentle, and as they grew up and learned more about what their past life did, they were filled with remorse. They dedicated the rest of their life to helping those hurt by the war, as well as keeping a record of the pain and dedication that they had caused in order to ensure that their future incarnations would not repeat their mistakes. They left this record with Zekrin, the aspect of shadow, to give to the next incarnation. About eighteen years ago, the previous Cervus died under mysterious circumstances and was reincarnated to a single mother who named him Ravvi.
