Rey's long, low growl resonates pleasantly as he welcomes you, his cool nose gently nuzzling yours.
"Bienvenido," he rumbles, stepping back and inviting you into his home with a wide sweeping gesture. "So nice of you to come see me, my friend."
His softly accented English is endearing, and you find yourself smiling back at him as his eyes meet yours.
"Please, follow me," he says, turning and padding away from you on velvet soft paws that make no sound on the cool tile floor.
His home is as grand as you would have imagined for someone named 'King'. The sweeping staircase ahead of you leads up to a gallery whose walls are decorated with beautiful artwork. Above you, the chandelier sparkles in the light of the setting sun that streams through the high windows. As the evening breeze flows through the house it moves the dangling crystal shards and sends rainbow flashes dancing along the walls.
You follow Rey to the verandah at the back of his home and he motions for you to sit with him and admire the view. The garden is full of trees and flowers and thick with the smell of cut grass and warm earth - the smells of summer.
"There is something I must do before dinner," Rey tells you, pouring a glass of iced tea for you. "I have been waiting a long time to do it. I will tell you a story, yes? Then you will understand."
You nod as the young Archan settles beside you and sip your drink as he begins his tale.

"When I was a small cub, very young, my mother and father told me I would be a great Archan. It is why they named me Rey," his eyes soften as he casts his mind back. "In my youth I was not great. I tried, but I was never fast, or clever, or, how you say, 'fuerte'? Strong? Never strong. My father was sad for this, he loved me still, but I could see in his eyes.

"One day when I was hunting with my father we came upon another Archan, one that we did not know, who was wounded. My father did not believe that there was anything we could do for him. He was unconscious. His side was torn, one back leg was broken, and his breathing was shallow. My father said he would not live. He wanted to leave him there to die, but I could not do that. I said no-one should die alone. My father was proud of me, but he was needed at home, so he left me a little of the meat from our kill and returned home alone.

"I did not know how long the Archan would take to die, but there was a storm coming that evening and I knew it would be a bad one, the clouds had been building, dark, angry. I had to carry the stranger to shelter. He was heavy, but I managed it. I licked his wounds and tried to make him comfortable. For three days and nights I watched over him. On the fourth day he woke. He could not move still, but he was able to drink and eat a very small amount before falling asleep again. I stayed with him until he was able to walk again.

"It was weeks later that the stranger, Metiko, was healthy enough to go home, and he walked with me to meet my father and thank my parents for allowing me to help him. My father was amazed, but very proud when the stranger told him how well I had done in nursing him back to health. Metiko was a respected elder in his own clan, Pride Ari. He told my father that if I was allowed to go with him I would become a truly great Archan. I would be honoured among his people for my deeds."

The sun finally dips below the horizon and the breeze ripples through Rey's mane as he turns his gaze to yours. "Since then Metiko has taught me many things and I have accomplished much more than I ever thought I would, or could."

He rises from his place beside you and indicates that you should follow him down into the garden where a silver-haired man waits in silence, watching you approach. "But tonight is the night I have been preparing for," Rey continues in hushed tones. "I am so glad you're here to see it."

The Archan bows his head before the man and you notice him handing over some small iridescent jewels. The man closes his eyes and appears to concentrate as he raises the gems into the air. You watch intently as they begin to shine, getting brighter and brighter so that you have to sheild your eyes from the glow. You notice that Rey is hovering a little off the ground, his eyes closing, so calm within the light. It gets brighter still and you have to turn away until it peaks and then slowly begins to fade and darkness returns to the garden.

When you turn back the silver-haired man is gone, and after such a bright light you have trouble distinguishing Rey from the shadows, until he opens his eyes.
You can tell he's smiling as he shakes out his mane and the golden accents seem to glow with an inner light. He steps forward and touches his nose to yours again. "Come, my friend," he says. "Let's eat."

I got Rey from the Adoption Center on the 6th of February 2011. He was already Galactic. This is just a story I came up with for Rey working from his name (meaning 'Lion King' in Spanish), his colour, and the personality I felt he had. Hope you enjoyed reading.
