You never know until you walk in..

As you observe the massive beast in front of you, you hear a quiet whisper.. "I haven't always looked like this.."

Startled, you begin to move closer and decide to ask her what her story is. She waits patiently for you to take a seat and begins to recount her tragic transformation.

Ten years ago, she was a beautiful, majestic beast with thick blue and green fur, not the mangled and matted mess of brown that haunted her presently. And not only was she breathtaking in sight, but she was also powerful and thus, lead her pack. For three years, they hunted and thrived in the forest where they lived, never having to answer to any other packs once they'd established themselves. But in a flash, that all changed.

One night, a new pack came into the wooded area and immediately you could sense they were different. They came in looking for a fight instead of the usual prey or shelter that the other packs had once tried to encroach for. The bloody battle broke out quickly and escalated into an hour long massacre, leaving both packs dangerously low in numbers. Defeated, the rival pack retreated out of the area to tend to their wounded and dead.

"We lost many that day and those of us that survived were badly injured. I'd imagine a few even passed later in their sleep, though I can't ever be sure. We numbered 27 when we began only 7 of us returned."

Badly broken and in excrutiating pain, she had collapsed onto the gentle cushion of hay to recuperate when suddenly everything went black. A burlap sack was thrown over her, quickly followed by heavy iron chains to keep her from tearing through. As she struggled weakly against her bonds, she began howling for her pack. Not for them to come save her, as her captors thought, but to indicate danger was near. She knew that none of them were in any shape to come into a fight and survive, let alone be able to overpower and rescue her. Her warning was answered with a low howl, letting her know they were listening for a sign of danger to come close. And with that in her mind, she allowed herself to be swept away.

It felt like a years time had passed with her trapped in her bonds, riding along in a rickety cart. On the last day of travel, however, she overheard her captors complaining that four days time was much too long to kidnap some half-dead dog. She bristled at this statement, but knew better than to cause any issues in her current state as she was weakened even further by the scarce diet of bread and water to sustain her through travel. By the time they arrived at their destination, she was far too weak to even open her eyes once the sack was lifted.

As she lay on the harsh ground, thankful for unobstructed air, a low voice came from before her. "Ah, if it isn't the little queen of the Telenines.. not quite so powerful anymore, are you? Let's see how you fair in a role that is better suited to you; a subservient little mutt."

For two years, her will not her own and death never daring take her, she was a murderer. A pawn at the hands of a dark Sorceress, she had to live with memories of everyone she had ever attacked and brutalized. Things took an even worse turn when the Sorceress recieved the news from her men that they had found the last remaining piece of a map. This map was to an uncharted island where a great source of power resided. Immediately, the Sorceress, her men and Persephone set sail for the island. "Finally, you can look like the savage beast you've become."

A sea witch by the name of Merana was well-known and sought after for her power to transform creatures into terrible, vicious looking beasts. Her capotr was no different and was giddy with delight as they arrived upon the darkened shores of the hidden island.

A short meeting between the two women resulted in the Sorceress sending her men to retrieve several key items needed for the ritual. They didn't return for three days and Persephone was forced to lay in wait as her fate drew ever nearer.

Finally, the day arrived when the transformation would take place. Merana had warned Persephone of the pain that would accompany the transformation, but no amount of warning would be sufficient when it came down to it. It was as if the fur was being torn from her body making way for her new fur to quickly grow and cover her. Her bones twisted and snapped, reforming her into a larger, hunched creature. Her insides burned as if she had acid in her veins and she temporarily lost her ability to see as her eyes changed colors, though she kept them wrenched shut as she writhed in agony.

She didn't wake up until a week later. Her surroundings had changed and she was alone. Beneath her large paw, which she noted was now a muddy brown color, was a small, folded note. Gently nosing it open, she began to read:

Persephone,
I tried to avoid making you go through this transformation, however the Sorceress wished to be present for the entire process. As the transformation was completing, one of my men knocked her unconscious. I've moved you to another small island, where she will not find you. Be careful and make your way into the town. They are expecting your arrival and someone has offered you a warm place to stay. Again, I must express my apologies.
Wishing you a better life,
Merana

Merana was true to her word however, as a young woman was awaiting me in the small town. She offered me a warm bed, a hearty meal and some very much needed TLC. I am forever indebted to her and I spend every one of my days trying to make up to her what she has done for me. If I had never been brought to Akuoni, I probably would not be alive today.

It is because of her and her family, that I was able to start one of my own as well. My pup, Savage, is growing quickly and she is an indispensable resource when it comes to help with taking care of him.

And that, traveler, is my story. What's yours?
