So here I stand, the light of a new day piercing not only the heavens but the velvet curtains faithfully guarding a marbled balcony. It is from there that I will greet the people I never thought I would lead, but whom I must now protect.
My thoughts are broken by a silhouette, a familiar shape in an unforgiving light, with a robe of stunning violet in its grasp. A smile greets me.

"Ready?" The voice of my oldest and dearest friend fills my heart with instant warmth. It is a stark contrast to the chill of an otherwise empty room. From this distance, he knows I am shaking.

"I don't think I'll ever be."

My companion of so many years simply gives a chuckle in response. I can feel his hand against my back, offering comfort, and I know he is here to support me, as always. In the times that lie ahead, it will be my closest friends that I rely on most. However, he is still the same man as ever, and proceeds to blind me temporarily by moving the curtains apart. I shield my eyes only to see his grin.

"Your stage awaits, m'lord." He says. I know it is only mockingly; the grin is still present. Though I am too nervous to express it now, his jests are what keep me from hiding from this ceremony. I take a deep breath and step through the breach into the warm, midsummer air, the weight of the crown heavy and unfamiliar upon my head.
