I remember like it was yesterday, that's something that's said when you can recall something really vividly. Since this happened to me, I definitely can remember it like that. Momma always told me not to play in the street. I knew not to, but I accidentally tripped and that's when my favourite doll ended up in the middle of the road. I knew not to wander out and get her, but I did anyway. I don't remember much after that. I could hear Momma scream and Papa yelling and then I remember seeing my brother. He didn't stay long, but I could see the pain in his face as he took off running. Around that time I remember falling asleep. When I woke up I didn't really feel any different, but from what was going on earlier I could tell something bad had happened. It was about the time Momma would make me a snack and I remember going into the kitchen, but nothing had been left for me. I frowned, pouting. How could Momma forget? I went to look for her and found her in my bedroom crying. I tried to tell her that it was okay she forgot, but it was like she didn't hear me. I was really confused, so I went to Papa's study, but when I walked in he didn't even glance up. I didn't understand, it was like they were ignoring me. Sometimes they would do that to my big brother when he did something he wasn't supposed to and they were really mad at him, but they never did it to me. At least, not until now. I tried to think of what I could've done to make them so mad, but I didn't come up with anything. Eventually Momma fell asleep in my room so I curled up in my plush rocking chair. It was my bed time anyway, but I couldn't sleep.

Momma woke up. She glanced at where I was sitting, sighed, and went downstairs. I squinted at the clock on my wall and it was 6:30 in the morning! I wasn't allowed to stay up all night, even if it was Summer. I crawled out of my chair and followed her downstairs. Normally Papa would be making pancakes at this hour, but none were to be found. This was all really weird to me. This went on for a short while, with Momma and Papa ignoring me. I didn't even realise I wasn't getting hungry or thirsty or anything. It was on a Thursday that I watched as Momma got into the far back of her closet and took out an all black outfit and changed, a veil covering her eyes. Papa did the same a while later in an all black suit and when they went to the car I followed after them. Papa didn't even open the door for me, but they took off and left me. I didn't know what else to do, so I went to follow the car. It took a little while to get there, but when I did I noticed we were at a cemetary. I didn't know what we were doing there, but I followed Momma and Papa over to where the grave was. I could see a memorial set up and when I looked closer, it was a picture of me! I was even more confused then, I mean I wasn't dead! It was then that I realised my whole family was there. Even the ones that still lived in Boston. My big brother showed up too and he brought his friend Trigger. I still didn't really understand fully what was going on. I noticed the casket and I decided to take a peek at it. Inside was me, but again that didn't make sense because I was here and yet I was there too. I looked like I was sleeping and I was really pretty. I could see that I was holding my favourite dolly too. I wasn't very old then, but I pieced it all together after a while. It's like a camera reel was rolling through my mind's eye. I was hit by a car, Momma was screaming and Papa yelling. My big brother was crying and running away. I... had died. Momma always told me that good little boys and girls would go to Heaven and that an angel would guide them. I wasn't in Heaven though and no one came to show me the way. I didn't know what to do so I ran all the way back home and crawled into my bed and cried. I was so scared. I wasn't allowed to sleep, since spirits don't need that, but I stayed there curled up for a really long time going over everything again.

Eventually I did get up and I wandered outside my house, sighing. I missed Momma reading me bed time stories, Papa making pancakes, and my brother playing games with me. I wasn't allowed to do any of that like this. I went and sat on the swing that Papa had tied to a giant elm tree for me in the front yard outside. I scrunched my shoes together, tears still forming in my eyes, and sighed again. My ears perked all at once, I heard footsteps. I glanced up and there was a thin tall man standing in the yard. I tried to put on a really brave face even though it probably looked more like a sad pout. Then I remembered, I was a ghost. My brave facade faded. He walked closer and spoke, "What's a pretty little thing like you still doing here? You should've long since been to Heaven."I curled my tail up to me and shook. He... could see me. He spoke again, "Perhaps it's just that someone as delicate as you didn't get to finish your time here. Or the angels don't know about you."I didn't say anything, Momma always told me not to talk to strangers. He tipped his hat up a bit with a cane, "You're scared. I get that. You don't have to be though, Tiffany."Alarms were going through my head at this point, he knew my name. I wasn't sure whether to run or not, I was frozen in place. I know if I was alive my heart would be beating out my chest. He gently knelt on the ground and took out a small plush toy."I'm not going to hurt you, this is just going to make it easier for people to see you."I shook again, I didn't know what he was going on about. How was a toy supposed to help? I had plenty of toys, but they didn't do anything. It was then he started saying some stuff in a really funny language, it sounded like gibberish to me. I could feel myself being pulled toward the stuffed animal. I wasn't sure what to do. I tried to resist, but whatever he was doing kept edging me closer and closer. I shut my eyes afraid of what might happen if I saw. When I opened them, the man was holding me. He pat me on the head, "There now, that wasn't so bad right?" I didn't know what he had meant. He took out a small mirror and held it up to me. I peered into the reflective surface and gasped. I was a plushie now, or at least I think I was. I could move, but I was terrified to speak. The man then took me, cradled in his arms, to what I could only guess was his shop. He sat me up on a wooden shelf along with a few other stuffed toys. I whined, I wanted to go home. I missed my Momma and Papa. I didn't understand if he could make me into a plushie, why not leave me at home with them.
"It's not as simple as you think, no one is going to believe you are you unless they choose to. I will keep you here, place you in the open shop window in the mornings and perhaps one day someone will find you." I wanted to cry, but I couldn't. The other plushies on the shelf turned and looked at me, I was frightened again. I just wanted the nightmare to end, but it kept getting worse! I crawled to a spot on the shelf by myself. I didn't want anyone to bother me. I just didn't feel like it. Every day the man, who I learned was named Milenko, would pick me up off the shelf and set me in the store's front window. He'd take a few of the other plushies, who I'd also learned were other spirits of children that he'd collected and set them alongside me. I grew used to the mundane being brought to the back of the shop in the evenings and to the front window in the mornings and I would talk with the other children. Some of them had been there for a really long time. I felt bad for them, but there wasn't much I could do.

I lost count of how many days it had been that I'd been sitting in that window. I started losing hope that I would be found. I was slumped on my pedestal when an older lady walked in the store. She made her way over to me and scooped me up. She brought me to the front counter and as much as I didn't want to go with this woman, I was sold to her. I didn't understand why Milenko would let this happen to me. This wasn't anyone I knew at all. My heart felt heavy and I know if I could've cried I would have. She took me to her house and took a cute little plaid ribbon and gently tied it around my neck in a bow. Then, she brought me up to another room in the house. There was a little girl playing with some other toys in a giant dollhouse. The older lady got her attention and then handed me to her. The little girl was so happy. She held me close and gently pet my fur. I found out her name was Sophia, but she preferred Sophie, and the lady who had brought me here was her grandmother. Her grandma asked what she wanted to name me and Sophie thought on that for a moment before saying Puppetual, Puppet for short.

I spent many years with Sophie. She took great care of me and we played all sorts of games. I had lots of dresses to wear too. We had tea parties pretty much daily; I remember doing the same thing when I was little too. Any time I would get a small tear or dirt on my fur she would take me to her Grandmother to repair me. I hadn't felt this much love since I'd lived at home. I really did like living with Sophie, but I missed my parents. I think Sophie must've somehow noticed one day, she was a lot older now, in her early teens. "Puppet, why are your eyes so dim today?" She'd asked me. I didn't respond. "I don't like you looking so sad, I wish you could tell me what's wrong." I still didn't respond. She thought about that for a moment, "...do you miss your friends at the toy store?" I remember looking at her intently and she held me close. "I love you Puppet, but I don't want you being sad." She brought me outside the house and into town. "You've made me really happy over the years Puppetual, but I think you need to go home." I thought on that for a moment... home. Sophie brought me into the toy store and up to the counter where Milenko was working still. She gently set me down and said, "She's unhappy, she needs to be with her family." I wasn't sure how Sophie had known what I'd wanted, but Milenko went through his files and handed her a paper with an address on it. My address. Sophie brought me all the way to my house and knocked on the front door. Tyler happened to be visiting with my Momma and answered the door.
"Yeah?" he asked.
Sophie handed me to my brother, "This is Puppetual, she belongs with you."
My brother just gave her a funny look, confused. "What're you talkin' about?"
Sophie was already at the edge of the yard, but she turned. "Many years ago my grandmother went to a toy store and at that toy store she bought Puppetual for me. She started looking sad so I brought her back to the store and I was given this address. So... she belongs here." She began walking back towards her home and my brother looked closer at me still confused. My eyes sparkled; I was home. He brought me into the house and sat me on the table in the living room. Momma was watching tv and looked at my brother.
"Who was that?" she questioned.
"I dunno. Said that the plushie belongs here or somethin'." I wanted to tell them who I was and that was when I noticed the pad of paper and a pencil on the table. I was too scared to do anything just then, I didn't want them freaking out seeing I could move. A while later Momma said it was supper time and she and Tyler went into the kitchen. That was when I made my move. I carefully moved closer to the paper and took the pencil in my mouth. It was pretty shaky, but I wrote "Tiffany" on the paper then sat back down beside it. After dinner my Momma and brother came back into the living room. My brother noticed first, "I didn't leave that there." He'd said, meaning me. He then saw the pad of paper and picked it up. He read it over then showed it to Momma. She brought a hand to her mouth in disbelief then they both turned to me. I slowly wagged the plush tail I had. Tyler picked me up, "...Tiffany?" My plastic eyes caught the dim light in the room and I wagged my tail again. Momma started crying and my brother hugged me closer. I was finally home. I remember it like it was yesterday and I'll never forget!
Friends & Family

Angela Harte

My Momma! She's really nice and always reads me bed time stories and makes me snacks. I don't really have to eat or sleep since I'm a plushie now, but I still like sweets and stories and Momma always makes sure I have them. I couldn't ask for a better Momma.

Tyler Harte II

My Papa I don't know where he went, but I miss him. He used to make me all sorts of toys and stuff and his pancakes were the best! Big brother says that after my accident is when Papa went away. I hope he comes back home sometime soon!

My Big Brother

Tyler is the best big brother ever! We always play games and have fun. Before my accident I would always give him my vegetables because I didn't like them and he would eat them so Momma wouldn't know. Momma doesn't make me eat my vegetables now, but I still share my snacks with Tyler because I know he likes them as much as me.

Friends

Trigger

My big brother's best friend, he's funny! I don't know if my Big Brother told him I was back or not, but before the accident Trigger and my Big Brother would play games with me. They would both enjoy my tea parties and it made me really happy.

Scycle

Scycle is one of those super hyper kinda people, but she's still one of my very best friends. She's a vampire, but she's not scary like they make them in the movies. We always have fun together! My big brother doesn't really like me going out by myself, even though I think I can handle myself, so I usually go with Scycle and or Zin!

Zin

Zin was one of the first friends I made, before my accident, after Scycle. She's a zombie-vampire. As far as I know she's stuck in the goth/punk phase, but she's super nice to me. Like Scycle she enjoys my tea parties and sometimes all three of us will have sleepovers. She and Scycle are some of the only people that treat me like an adult.

Sophie

She hasn't visited since she brought me back to my family, but I hope she and her grandmother are doing well. We had so many tea parties, dress up games, and adventures we went on together and I hope she remembers them as well as I do. Any time I would get any sort of tear she would take me to her Gran-Gran and she would repair me. It's not that Sophie tried to get me torn or anything, any tears were because of love.

Sophie's Grandmother(aka Gran-Gran)

She's a really sweet and kind lady, I mean she got me for Sophie! I didn't like that I was sold to her at first, but some of my best years were spent with them. If I ever got any tears she'd fix me. There were times Sophie would need other toys fixed and Sophie's Gran-Gran would set me on a shelf until it was my turn to be repaired so I would watch and learn how to sew. She's a really skilled seamstress.

Milenko

I used to be afraid of Mister Milenko, but he's not a bad man. He put my soul inside the plushie I live in now and if he hadn't done that I would've been wandering lost. He helps other lost children find their families too.
