Viv’s mother, Ardith, a long-time rebel and devoted feminist, raised her daughter outside the village of Braemar in the Grampian Mountains, away from her late husband’s family, as “those stuck-up patriarchal ponces would ruin your chances of having a mind of your own.” Their cottage was decidedly smaller on the outside than it was inside, appearing not more than a modest one-room shepherd’s home in the hills. Inside, however, were dozens of rooms, including a full library, a distillery for potions, a dog kennel, and an alchemy laboratory. When Ardith fell ill with Black Cat Flu as it swept through the wizarding community of Northern Scotland 6 months before Viv was due to begin her first year at Hogwarts, Viv was desperate for help getting her mother adequate care and reached out to her paternal grandparents, to whom she had never actually spoken. An old, proud wizarding family of no small fortune, they agreed to assist their former daughter-in-law on one condition: Vivian was to move to England and take her place as their heir. Her mother could be moved to St Mungo’s for treatment and recovery. Ardith was free to see her daughter, but primary custody would be given to the Ashworth’s until she turned 18 and graduated from Hogwarts School. Vivian reluctantly agreed, and her life as the Ashworth heir began. Her grandparents were cold, strict traditionalists, and determined to use the time they had before Vivian started Hogwarts to “properly turn the girl out” and enforce conformity so that their family image would be maintained. Academic tutoring was not necessary, but a more suitable wardrobe was ordered, diction lessons in order to smooth out her brogue and give her a more clipped, Oxford accent took up hours of her day, and memorizing wizarding family genealogies kept her up every night. The stress of forcing herself to change into a completely different person on the outside eventually lead to a new discovery: Vivian was a metamorphmagus, and could change her appearance at will. Deciding to keep this a secret from her grandparents, she uses this ability to sneak more “real Viv” traits into her appearance while at school, away from the watchful Ashworth eyes.Personality: Outwardly aloof and disdainful of most “common” pursuits the other students engage in such as pranking and playing sports, underneath her chilly exterior beats the heart of a passionate rebel who is curious about everything, admires the beauty in nearly everything, and has a secret penchant for jewelry crafting and knitting. Her observable hobbies include reading, painting, playing the harp, dueling, and gem collecting. She excels at Alchemy and Potions particularly.
