The star at the heart of the beast bore only one object: a simple lifeless sphere of a rock on an elliptical orbit, swinging sometimes too-wide and sometimes too-near. It was a simple curiosity for a while - they joked that it was quite a daredevil, playing games of chicken with the star it was so tethered to. Such an unruly sort of thing!
"You know what it actually is?" one of them had abruptly said into the relative silence of the breakroom during their lunch hour; their face was turned to gaze out of the window, and they weren't even looking at their colleagues while they were speaking. "It ain't a daredevil at all."
