Everything in his life was scripted.

Rhain was the name they would give a boy and Ryder for a girl. His entire life had been planned out before birth and told to him in great detail every chance his family got.
He was to be an only child. They wanted only one, no more, no less.
He was to graduate top of his class in every subject and swift punishment followed if that was not met. He soon learned studying could be fun if it avoided the whip.
He was to follow in his father's, and his father's, and his father's footsteps by enrolling in the flight academy. There he was expected to once again reach the top of his class, and fulfill the position of Captain one day in the Galactic fleet. As his father had. He was then told to reach for the medals of honor, the praises of the king, and whatever other trophies and sparkly titles and awards he could claim until he found a wife, settled down, and continued their proud line.

For awhile, Rhain followed expectations. However he soon got smarter, learning to bend the rules yet concealing his intentions. It may have not been complete rebellion, but it was enough to sate his growing suffocation.
Everything went well until one day he heard whispered snatches of a new invention; a teleporter.
His imagination went wild with ideas. How would they beat those expectations into him if they couldn't find him? It was that day that Rhain decided to go off script.
