I never really thought of myself as loveable. My Mother didn't love me much. Not that I realised at first. My Brothers and Sisters were always around her and she would feed them and clean them, but I tended to be on the outside for some reason. If I was hungry and tried to feed, one of my siblings would always push me aside. There were even times when my Mother did it. I really didn't understand what I had done wrong.
I started to hear the word "runt" more and more often, especially when the human creatures were talking about me. I didn't understand the word at that time, but after a while I figured that being a runt was a bad thing.
Over the next few weeks, lots of the human creatures came to our little room, smiling and laughing and playing with us....well, more with my Brothers and Sisters really, but it was still nice to watch my siblings playing around with our visitors, running after balls and giving out kisses. Gradually, my Brothers and Sisters were taken away one by one until I was alone with just my Mother. My human would only sigh at me when she came into the room, telling me I was unwanted by anyone an a drain on her finances.
I don't know what changed, but one day my human put me in her big metal thing with wheels and we moved around for a while. Next thing I knew, a smiley human was taking me in her arms. She had a big smile on her face and she wrapped me in a nice warm blanket. She told me she was my new Mum and that the big human with her was my new Dad. That was the start of my new life!
That day I met my Brother. He was 6 months older than me. I must admit to being a little frightened of him at first. He could be a bit grumpy! His name was Oscar. He was much, much bigger than me but he told me that he was a Chihuahua too and that we had the same Father. That night, once our Mum and Dad had gone to rest, Oscar told me all about them. He said that he loved living with them as they were kind and played with him all the time, fed him when he was hungry and let him run around in the garden as much as he wanted. He also told me about his other human friends, Grandma, Grandad and Aunty Denise. When they saw him they would give him kisses, hugs and treats.
