Alduin
the Bloodred Endeavor the World Eater
"Yol."

A small blast of fire leapt from Alduin's mouth, setting ablaze a nearby brazier and causing a cluster of perched ravens to scream and scatter, leaving the dragon alone atop the tower. In mere moments the roaring flames had chased away the darkness of the surrounding night. Moving closer Alduin stared at the depths of the fire, the dull shine of his scales contrasting with the brightness in his narrowed eyes.

How long had it been? Centuries? Millennia? Even longer? How long since the dragon god Akatosh had created him and the other Dov? Since time itself began? To mortals it would have seemed an eternity ago, but to the immortal dragon the memories still burned brightly in his mind. They were the children of a god, the greatest of all the creations which lived in Mundus, and he had been chief among them. It was he who had first turned them from their wild ways, who first united all the Dov, and who showed to all the children of Akatosh their dez. Their destiny. His destiny. For he was the first-born of Akatosh and the god's greatest creation. He was the strongest, the wisest, and the most ferocious of the Dov, and so they respected him. Followed him. Because it was Alduin who had recognized the true calling of the Dov. The ancient men, the Nords as they called themselves, feared and worshiped the Dov, and Alduin above all. To him they gave the title World Eater, and foretold that it would be the dragon who brought about the end of Mundus. But they were wrong. The great dragon's wings twitched as he watched the dancing flames of the brazier, the appendages almost eager to fly as they remembered the great battles of those ancient days. For Alduin would not be the "World Eater" as the lesser mortals believed. No, he would be a kroniid. A conqueror. It was Alduin who led the Dov in their conquest of Mundus, and it was through his might that they subjected the ancient Nords, and through his wisdom that the will of Akatosh was achieved. For the Dov were the image of Akatosh, and it was by right that they were to rule over the mortals beneath them. And it was by right as first-born that he rule above them.

How Alduin reveled in such memories.

What proceeded could be called nothing short of a golden age. To appease the hunger of the Dov the ancient Nords constructed grand temples and sprawling burrows, and in turn the Dov granted to a select few mortals a taste of their mighty power. These became the dragon priests and they numbered as the most obedient of the Dov's servants. For their loyalty the dragon priests were allowed to govern the remaining mortals, to establish their laws and codes of living, and to gather tribute and maintain balance between the Dov and men. As such, for a time, Mundus knew peace under the rule of the Dov.

But the wills of mortals were fickle.

For even though he and the other Dov ruled absolute over the mortals, the dragon priests, mortals themselves, lacked such power and will. As time wore on many of the dragon priests turned to cold iron and fell magic to secure their own rule. The ancient Nords became but slaves to them, and in their arrogance the dragon priests fashioned themselves near to the Dov. Grik lost niist tumah. Such was their downfall. Faced with such a life the mortals rebelled against their own rulers, and in their weakness the dragon priests were unable to regain what control they had. So they sought the help of the true kings of Mundus.

They sought the Dov.
