The Spoon Theory
What is Spoon Theory, you say? Well, I am glad you asked! This metaphor was coined by US blogger Christine Miserandino who has lupus, in 2003, as a simplified explanation for how chronically ill people wake up day to day with a limited amount of energy that is spent on tasks; and it just so happened spoons were at the table while Christine was looking for a way to translate her experience.Could you give examples? Sure, but keep in mind the amounts of spoons can change from person to person for the same task (and day to day). Getting out of bed costs 1 spoon, but going to your doctor can take from 3 to 4 spoons. Another example, taking your medicine takes 1 spoon and showering takes 2 to 3 spoons. And these are only a few examples. There are SO many tasks that take a variety of spoons.
All in all, It has given the Chronic illness an on or offline unifying term for people with any chronic illness, and a connection to those with experiences similar to our own, and it has also given us a term to use that perhaps is easier to understand for those who have not experienced it.
Come back later, I may put more!
