"Order for... Marlene? Two-thirds caff triple ristretto affogato large, 2 pump mango, 1 pump classic, 2%, mango to the second line, 3 scoops protein, 3 scoops berries, 2 scoop matcha, add banana, double blended, with whip, caramel drizzle, salted caramel topping, vanilla bean frappuccino?" the barista calls out, their voice lilting and playful.

The alleged "Marlene", who is a woman who looks like the villain in a children's movie about dogs, stalks forward and snatches the cup from the barista's hand without even verifying the order. "It's Mary," she spits venomously, while the barista simply smiles their radiant smile, albeit now a bit bemusedly. "And you didn't put enough bananas in there. I know. I watched you make it. Poorly, might I add!"

The barista's smile doesn't waver; instead, with one gloved hand, they pick up a slice of banana from the well of banana slices, and, walking over to Mary, gently plop the single slice onto the top of her drink, where it slowly sinks down into the whip.

"Hmph!! Well, M--Mis--Mist--" She squints at the nametag on their apron. "Lolo. IF that is your real name. I'll be leaving a bad review for this cafe WITH your name in it."

Lolo continues smiling serenely. "Have a fantastic day, ma'am!" they say, before turning around and grabbing the next drink to hand off to a customer.

It wasn't that shitty customers didn't bother them — they did, for sure — and it wasn't that Lolo liked their job enough to ignore the jerks who came into the Cloud Nine Coffee Nook — they didn't — but that Loveday "Lolo" Darling simply had a zest for life, and for love, that most others couldn't even hope to match.

"Order for Fearne!!" they holler into the cafe, and Fearne, a Glade Devonti who seemed to be zooted out of his mind, stood there for a moment, processed that his name had been called, and only after Lolo was about to call out again did he step forward, raising a hoofed hand toward them.

"Dude, here!" he mumbles, taking the drink from Lolo's hands, shooting them a peace sign, and promptly dropping it on the floor. Because of the aforementioned zootedness, you see. Fearne stares Lolo dead in the eyes for several seconds, and then, with a dawning look of horror on his face, whispers, "Oh no, not again."

Lolo's mouth twitches for a moment, the smile almost threatening to fall from their face, before their smile re-ups itself. They hop out from behind the counter, clapping Fearne on the shoulder, while the latter is apologizing profusely. They grab a mop while Fearne exits, too embarrassed to ask for them to remake it or order again. Such is life in retail. At least this guy was nice (and cute).

The lunch rush is brutal, but by 5pm, Lolo's day is winding down. Their last customer before shift change is a highland Bovyne, his fur covering his eyes. He is gruff, but the conversation they have is pleasant, and they talk for several minutes. Lolo hands the Bovyne, whose name on the order was "Carolina", her receipt, but there is a twist; on it, is written Lolo's phone number, and a trademark double heart signature. Lolo winks at him as she leaves, and after that, waves goodbye to their coworkers as the register is taken over by another barista.

Lolo stretches after removing their apron, and sighs wistfully, wondering when or if they'll get a text back from the dashing Bovyne. Oh, the life of a romantic is one of love!
