Story

Meticulous, hardworking, reliable
Uptight, perfectionist

That rabbit staring at the moon is Virgo. She is waiting for the bridge between Heaven and Earth to open again.

As the goddess of harvest, Virgo wandered the Earth blessing the crops. The moon celestial, captivated by her beauty, fell in love at first sight. From the sky, he observed her day and night. She never once stopped to take a break. Curiosity drove him and he went down to Earth to observe her more closely. Virgo ignored his presence. Day after day, he continued to visit her and slowly a bond began for form between them. He was fascinated with her life amongst the humans, while she was perplexed with his laissez faire attitude towards duty and life.

One day, he asked if she wished to visit the Lunar City. It never crossed her mind, having always been preoccupied with work. She was curious if all moon-beings were as peculiar as him. After a long pause she nodded. Without skipping a beat, the celestial grabbed her hand and transported her to the moon. As she opened her eyes, Virgo was shocked at the sight before her. Stars of all shapes and sizes illuminated the sky. Still holding hands, the moon celestial led her to through the bustling night market. The streets were filled with pedestrians and stalls, selling food and trinkets. Time flew as they explored the Lunar City.

When Virgo returned to Earth, the land was covered in snow and frost. She had only been gone for a few days. How did the land turn barren in such a short time span? The moon celestial explained that 1 lunar day was equivalent to 1 month on Earth. She had been gone for several months. Without her blessings, crops could not grow. Famine had spread throughout, causing the premature deaths of many mortals.

As punishment, the gods transformed Virgo into a rabbit, only allowing her to return to her human form during a full moon. The celestial was banned from ever stepping onto Earth again. Once a year, when the moon and Earth are at its closest orbit, can the two meet. That day is called the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival originated from the worship of celestial phenomena and evolved from offering sacrifices to the moon on an autumn evening in ancient times. In ancient farming societies, the ancients believed that the movement of the moon had a lot to do with agricultural production and seasonal changes, so offering sacrifices to the moon became an important sacrificial activity. As one of the important customs of folk festivals, offering sacrifices to the moon has gradually evolved into activities such as appreciating the moon and singing the praises of the moon.
