My mind wanders back to our oblivious existence
I'm all choked up now with the threat of distance
As the train bound for disaster chokes up to the station
I don't board it cos I decide that it's the wrong destination
But the train bound for sustainability is nowhere to be seen
And I am lost so lost,
Where are the constellations that guide me?

And then I realise that
We need to use our own two feet
To walk these tracks
And we have to squad up
And we have to watch each other's backs
With forgiveness as our torch
And imagination our sword
We'll untie the ropes of hate and slash open
The minds of the bored
And we'll start a world so equal and free
Every inch of this Earth is yours
All the land and all the sea
Imagine no restrictions
But the climate and the weather
Then we can explore space, together, forever...

I'm sick of the human race and the unspeakable things they have done to my planet.
Because it is my planet, I was here first, I have always been here. I watched as apes began to walk on two legs, as they began to use tools, fire. I watched as the genus homo diverged, and finally as homo sapiens killed off, or out competed if you will, the remainder of homo neanderthalensis, who I had had such high hopes for. But never did I think I would watch as they out competed the rest of us too. And sit by idly and watch I will not! The human race must be eradicated for the good of the planet. I didn't know how I would manage such a feat though as I was the last 'old one' left, as humans progressed they stopped needing us and because we weren't needed to balance the world anymore the other old ones began to fade away.
Sometimes I pray to the others, don't they see how out of balance the world is? They have to come back now, all our work is being ruined, with careful hands we nurtured each being into existence, but with careless hands humans are slaughtering them. My praying is in vain, they are gone and they are not coming back. I am alone in this struggle.
But then I hear a small voice, it says 'You're not alone, I'm sad for the world too, there's so much hate and needless violence, so I'll help you to do what is right, even it means destroying mankind and by doing so ending any hope I have of seeing a better world'; the voice comes from a small girl with red hair in a blue dress, she couldn't be older than 10 yet she spoke with such clarity.
'What help could you possibly be to me?', I replied. How had she found my hiding place? And more importantly, how had she managed to get so close without me noticing? Perhaps faced with such hopelessness I was beginning to lose myself to the same abyss the others had gone to. She came closer, I was almost within her reach now.

'I will give you the strength to go on without others of your kind, I'll give you my company so you need not be alone', she reaches out and puts her hand gently on my wing and I look down at her face. There is no malice there, none of the ingrained hate I had come to recognise in all humans. There was only innocence, the kind that gets crushed out of you as you grow up and realise that life is hard and not always worth living. All my tension and anger drained away as I looked at her, how could I wish humanity dead when they could produce such pure innocence. What had become of me if I could wish pain upon the inhabitants of my world.
'They are trying, you know', she said, 'there are so many people working to make this world a better place'.
'I know', I replied, 'I see that I am not needed here anymore'.
'Of course you're needed here, we all have our parts to play, yours might no longer be to influence the outcome of the world, but you're still our watcher, many people believe in a higher power watching over us, and to me you are that higher power'.
I raised my eyes from her earnest face and looked out over my world, perhaps she was right, perhaps if I just gave them a bit more time humans would figure themselves out, I opened my mouth to tell her that I was content to remain a watcher but she was gone and something told me she had never really been here at all, I guess I have been alone for too long after all.
