Whispers of mist rose from the plains as night came once again. The last rays of the dying sun disappeared against the horizon and two curious eyes peered out of a den, followed by two others. The older of the two canines, both of which were light-furred, stepped cautiously out of the den, pausing to lick her lips, expelling a freezing breath, then shot into the shadows, pausing along the edge of the woods to await her sister's arrival. Tonight would be a full moon, and the sisters would run together. But the older of the two's eyes flickered to the mist, a strange and unfamiliar sight.Â
"What's wrong, Anastasia?" The younger asked, as she neared her littermate's side. She leant to scratch at an itch on her side before noticing the mist after stretching out her wings and checking that her light yellow halo was still resting above her head. "What's that?"
Glacing back at the den, Anastasia said, "I'm not sure, Chastity." After detecting nothing other than a slight stuffy sensation she shrugged. "Come on." With that, she led the way into the darkness.Â
As the two padded along, following the light that slowly glowed from theirwoods. As Chastity saw the trees thinning out up ahead, her speed increaseduntil she was in an all out run, making Anastasia struggle to catch up then keepup. Although the elder was larger, her younger sister was much faster and hadthe advantage of agility and flight.
Paws about to hit the moonlit plain, Anastasia suddenly realized her sister had disappeared. She swung her head, glancing over her shoulder, blind to the fact that there was a log in her path. She stumbled over the wooden object then rolled to her paws and stood, waiting for her sister to leap out and laugh at the fright she'd caused her. But no young female came leaping out. A familiar scream froze the glacier Kumos' already frozen heart, and she charged forward, nimbly avoiding the log, breaking into the dark woods again. This scream had been real, no joke about it.
As her eyes readjusted to the dark, Anastasia's heartbeat quickened. She could see a flash of white up ahead, but darkness kept interfering with her sight of her sister. She broke into a run and leaped right at the dark creature who was fighting her sister. As soon as the creature turned towards her, its jaws opened, and Anastasia cringed away, the mist filling her nostrils and covering her vision, nightmarish forms drifting in and out of focus. With a snarl, the white icy wolf snarled and broke out of the trance, aiming her teeth for his maw. Her fangs clamped on his jaw, and a whimper she knew probably wasn't by choice escaped his maw. He broke free, cackling in laughter as he seemed to just.. dissipate.
