She tapped a long finger on the side of her onyx throne. It had been beautifully carved by artisans many centuries ago, giving it a shape of a spider relaxing in it's web. Glancing down at her action she rolled her eyes. Giving an exasperated sigh she stopped the tapping and leaned back, gracefully crossing her currently Elven legs. Absently she reached down to caress the arm on the throne and within seconds was back to tapping her finger again.
Yup... she was bored.
For a Goddess of Chaos, that was a bad thing... who knows what would happen. She stared for a few moments at the many skittering spiders crawling around on the floor, still tapping absently. Several of her small minions in the room shuffled uneasily and kept themselves within the darker shadows, foolishly hoping this would keep them from her sight. They too felt their Dark Mistress's mood and if they were to catch her eye they may inadvertently become the next easement to her ennui... and this was not a good thing for them.
The only creature in the room not worried about his welfare with the Goddess quickly glanced up from a small shimmering pool he'd been studying when she sighed. He cocked his head slightly and with an almost human-like concern he reached out with a few tendrils of energy trying to gauge her true feelings... and possibly to see how he could help.
Jerking up suddenly (which frightened some of the already terrified minions into fleeing the room screaming) she quickly glanced around. As she glared into the deep recesses, adding heavier mental shields into place almost instantly she wondered who would be foolish enough to try accessing her thoughts... in her own lair of all places! She then realized who would be that daring and again rolled her eyes at her paranoia. Of course, nothing could harm her here. She settled back into her seat once more, turning her head to look at the tall robed octopus-like creature, a small smile on her lips.
"So... find anything of use, Fred?" she asked the creature in a tone that suggested she already knew the answers.
Fred glanced back down at the deep red liquid in the miniature pool thanking his lucky stars he did not have a human face to show his muffled laughter, for he had been quite amused at her reaction.
Your sons, as usual have a hatred for one another, he mentally sent to her. However, they are keeping their distance from one another as you commanded. The elder son's young twins are growing stronger with each passing month and will soon require my training within the next year. And... he added with amusement, looking up at her from the pool once more You are bored.
She tsked in scorn, rolled her eyes again, then elegantly rose from her throne. She began to pace back and forth, hands behind her back while the spiders skittered out of her way and climbed the walls. As she made one pass, a foolish minion slipped in his haste to get out of her way and she absently kicked it into the corner where several other minions cowered, bowling them all over.
" 'Bored' doesn't quite describe it, my squishy friend. The Prime Material Plane as of late seems foolishly complacent, as though everyone has balanced out. Too balanced for my liking! My priestesses haven't called for me for quite some time, not even for a pitiful excuse." She grinned evilly, stopped her pacing and faced Fred. "I believe its time for another of my 'special' visits to that plane." She crossed her arms, stared thoughtfully at Fred's face staring once more into the pool before him while gently tapping her lips with a forefinger. "Oh... and I'd like you to accompany me this time." she then added with a grin.
Shocked, Fred snapped up his head to look at her. Me? What could I possibly be needed for? he asked incredibly.
She waved a delicate hand. "Oh don't worry, I have my reasons... which you will find out when the time is right." Fred gave an audible watery snort at that and rolled his own milky eyes. She walked over to him and laid an almost comradely like hand on his shoulder. "Trust me, Fred... it'll be fun!" She grinned again and with a swish of her cloak she turned away, exiting the room skipping like a little girl.
The illithid tilted his head again and stared after her, thinking on what she said. He himself had not yet been formed the last time she'd made such a trip into the Prime Plane. However, within the memories he shared with his entire community he was able to recall every detail as though he had been there personally. The more he thought on it, the more he was intrigued.
After what had only been in reality a few seconds, he too left the room following her. If he had a face that could smile he would have been wearing a broad one.
Lolth is the Goddess of the Dark Elves (more commonly known as the Drow). She is responsible for the nature, customs, laws and survival of almost all Drow communities. The Spider Queen maintains her absolute rule over Drow cities by means of her clergy who ruthlessly enforce the Way of Lolth by any means. These priestesses seek out and destroy all traces of dissent, disobedience, rival faith, or sacrilege. The Spider Queen foments unending chaos in Drow society and sets the Drow eternally at war with each other... both for her own amusement and to prevent complacency, runaway pride from asserting itself, or the rise of other faiths.
Lolth is a cruel, capricious Goddess, thought by many to be insane. She delights in setting her worshipers at each other's throats so that the strongest, most devious, and most cruel survive to serve her. Lolth roams the Realms appearing in answer to the rituals of Drow priestesses, and working whatever harm she can to the enemies of the Drow. The Spider Queen secretly wants to be worshiped by humans and elves of other races on the surface Realms, and sometimes journeys among their communities whispering of the power that Lolth can bring. Lolth is malicious in her dealings and coldly vicious in a fight. She enjoys personally dealing and causing death, destruction, and painful torture. Even more, Lolth enjoys corrupting Surface Elves and Humans to her service. Her favor and aid can never be relied or trusted.
The Spider Queen enjoys the company of and can converse with spiders of all types. No spider would ever dare harm her and all will follow her commands loyally.
