Emilee had always been fond of the rain. Of course, where she came from, rainy days were nonexistent. The sun shone bright nearly every day; other times, clouds would roll in and cover the sky. Emilee would wear a raincoat on these days in anticipation, but it never rained. Never. Everyone else saw that as fine and dandy, but no, Emilee could not understand why this oddity happened in her town. The movies she watched had always been full of the storms - the pit, pat; the rolling thunder; the drops running on the windows; the couple kissing in the rain.

She wanted to see it.

"You'll be staying at your grandmother's house for a while."

Emilee did not like grandmother's. She had been there only once - the house was in the middle of the woods. It was large and dark and scary. Her grandmother was also scary. She did not talk much, and her house was boring. But... mother insisted. And so they went to grandmother's.

Mother left shortly after they had arrived. To "go to the store." That left Emilee and her grandmother alone in the big house. They sat awkwardly in the living room for, what felt like, forever, before grandmother suggested that Emilee explored the 'great' outdoors. It was a relief.

She ran outside and followed the trail through the woods. The air was damp and the sky cloudy, and it wasn't long before the sky got dark. Emilee looked around; she could no longer see the house through the trees, and decided it was time to turn around. She backtracked the trail when thunder cracked.

Pit, pat, the drops fell on her head. She looked to the sky, and for the first time: rain.
