Stay Back!

The cellar reeks of a putrid stench and the lighting is practically nonexistent. How could anyone navigate their way through? More importantly, how did someone manage to get by the other pirates on deck unnoticed? They must have been a wanderer, or some sort of courageous adventurer to accidentally wind up here. But the past is the past now, the current concern now is to escape. Whether or not it's to get out or to stay in, the only option to do now is to navigate around the entire room to find a light source of some sort.

And what luck! As if it were a savior from from the heavens, a candle is lit up ahead to repel the ravenous darkness, but the heart drops as the realization of the presence of another is made clear. Fear enraptures and paralyzes the legs.

"Ahh... It appears that I have found myself a lost lamb." An individual of a pale complexion stands on the opposite side of the room. The hair that rests before his eyes and alongside his face is just as pale he is. An unbelievable fact at first, but upon closer inspection, it is noted that there is blood splatter on one side of his cheek. Flight conquering fight now, the physical senses refuse to cooperate with the mind, igniting a trap. A crooked smirk makes its way across the man's face as his eyes glint with amusement behind thick-rimmed spectacles. "I'll pay you good money if you'd allow me to gut you open.. For scientific discovery, of course."

A black bandana is tied around his neck. Possibly to hide something? Thick frames accent the scientist look.
Hobbies - Mutilating a new specimen, shopping for parts [body] around the black market, severing stuffed animals and sewing them back together in a new physical appearance, swinging the chain saw around even when there's no ice, laughing to himself

Profile

A calm and collected individual with a cool demeanor. He does not appear to anger often, but on off-days, his temper will burst like a thermometer in a patient with a high fever. He is usually serious with a stern face, but it becomes a misconception if one thinks he can't smile, for he can, and does so quite often out of the view of others.

Kovus makes a habitat out of the storage area of the pirate ship he occupies with along with the other crew. No one dares to step a foot within the dark depths of his territory, however, because it is known to harbor the experiments conducted by Dr. Turii. He performs what others believe to be "surgery", though he mainly works off the main medical line. His profession is not an official one. Though others aboard the ship refer to him as the doctor, the title is superficial. He never went so far as to finish medical school, and takes no action in keeping a clean and sterile workplace. In any case, his operating table is horrendously infected, and if the unlucky patient somehow manages to survive his experiment, the contraction of such bacteria and viruses are enough to kill him.

So what kind of experiments does Kovus conduct? Unfortunately, it's never anything short of sewing two twins together or plastic surgery to create a being perfect for a literal freak show. He explores such bizarre fascinations of his that the reason why he even joined his pirate crew is so he can keep such activity "underground". He "trusts" his comrades enough to prevent the ship's wreckage and his "laboratory" from being discovered.

Sure enough, Kovus does have morals, somewhat. He doesn't steal, despite being a pirate. His "labrats" are his property-- he bought them. Some have been former prisoners from lands his crew has raided, and others have been bought from the black market. Kovus deals with the black market often: it is the sole supplier for the spare organs and parts he needs at a bargain. However, even those bargains don't come cheap. The black market has a reason for its name after all. Because he doesn't steal nor bother to take part in the pirate's village ransacking, Kovus is not exactly wealthy. He does, however, make a good portion of his money from his said experiments. Kovus has his ways of making money.

He values discovery-- not intellect. Thus, his experiments are not for "science" nor "learning". They are merely for his fascination. Kovus enjoys the writhing squeal of his unfortunate test subjects and pulling apart innards only to reunite them in the shape of a new grotesque form. [You know, like giving someone two tongues.]

It has been rumored among the men aboard the ship that Kovus was once a traitor. No one knows who he betrayed or the cause behind it, but it is guessed that it was because of that reason that he bears such scarred and dismantled wings. A traitor is one who has committed the lowest of crimes. Not even pirates take kindly to traitors, as they are people who have failed to honor the unwritten code of trust. Kovus never talks about it, so no one really knows. Few even take their chances to trust him, and for some reason, the captain is that one of those idiots.

Special Talents

Regardless of such a dark hobby, Kovus is amazingly talented. Aside from his ability to sew up human flesh, he is profound at crafts that are very hands-on, such as making stuffed animals or carving tiny wooden figurines. Somehow, though, blood spills one way or another, though. Recently, Kovus has taken on the hobby of ice sculpting-- using a chainsaw. He usually sticks with making plushies as a minor hobby, though.

For some reason, Kovus can hear the stuffed animals he makes talk.. or rather, he can hear their thoughts. Maybe it's just a state of his mind, but he can hear them plead, beg for mercy, and cry piercing screams as he works on them. The stuffed animals he makes are always bleeding, but only in his eyes. No one else can see this supposed bloodshed. So while Kovus holds out his hands to ruminate over the bloodstains he carries, the other crew members try to evacuate the area as soon as possible.. because he's kind of nuts.

Ambition

Like all the other pirates aboard the ship, Kovus has some personal goals of his own. None involve world domination or cleansing the world, [common goals of the typical villain] fortunately. But that's only if you consider Kovus a villain. He sure doesn't think he's bad.

Kovus has his own reasons for being aboard the ship, but his place in that "plot" is that he has some kind of "moral" where he doesn't believe in stealing [despite being aboard a pirate ship]. He is an actual member of the crew, and therefore he has a kind of duty paid to Li, but he believes the rings belong to Punish, and therefore works to "sabotage" the ship and her plans to prevent her from getting these rings

"It is a most mortifying reflection for a man to consider what he has done, compared to what he might have done." -Samuel Johnson

Well, Kovus is a man of science, so naturally, roleplays where he is involved might have to do with science.. or maybe just things he feels like doing. Whatever he has muse in. Of course, if you have your own plot idea, I welcome you to involve Kovus in that, but sometimes I do get roleplay requests from those who have none of that.. They just want to roleplay. To aid those who just want to RP with Kovus, go ahead and pick a character who would work with the following scenarios. They won't all be the same static roleplays. I'll add variation, but these are just the general ideas I can come up with a plot for if there is none to begin with.

Retrieval Quest - Kovus always runs out of supplies. The days aboard the ship are incredibly long, and the days out on sea are even longer. Occasionally, he'll be too busy to get something on his own, so he'll ask someone to get it for him-- but because he doesn't think the subordinate can handle it, he'll end up escorting [or dragging] the other along. Hey, if you want something done, you've got to do it yourself.

Shopping at the Black Market - Kovus frequents there. Where else could he get those fresh parts?

That's Your Hobby?! - Hopefully by now, it's known that Kovus is good with his hands, so he's good at making stuffed animals. Maybe someone who knows the proper technique can comment on his skills, or maybe he can just impress those watching him. Heck, maybe some guy insults him for doing such a girly thing.

You Can't Come In - For some reason, there's a stowaway on board and Kovus ends up having to put the poor bloke on the clear. Knowing that every place on the ship is usually searched, the only option for him is to hide them away in his "storage" area, but Kovus isn't absolutely too keen on the idea...

The Crew

The ________. A ship that spells dreams for some, and death for others. All members aboard the ______ have no real connection to each other; they all joined the crew for one simple reason: they believe that the _______ will help get them to where they want to go. Each crew member has their own hopes and ambitions that prompt them to join the ship, and while some may choose to share their reasons, others keep theirs a secret. As a result, no real strong bonds are formed within members. Some may choose to form alliances in order to take advantage of what another may have physically or mentally.

The ship's pretty big! And this is excluding actual friends and enemies.
