Luminaire never put much effort forth when the holiday season rolled around each year, despite his name. He never saw the point of decorating a tree. His family never had one, so why should he? What was the point of waiting for snow to fall, or lights to go up, or getting excited over presents that never came for him?
He spent many of his Luminaire seasons alone in this way, not bothering with so much as a smile or a "Happy Lumi" to any passersby on the street. Then one Luminaire day, he heard a quiet mewling coming from the other side of his front door. Probably the neighbor's cat or something, he supposed, and didn't think much of it at first.
The sound continued for a while, and his patience finally grew thin. Luminaire grumpily opened the door, intending to shoo the creature away from his home and get some peace and quiet. At first he didn't even see the small minion. A pained mew drew his attention downward to a very cold looking Niakko, whose ears were flattened against its head in distress.
The timid being glanced up, it's eyes wide and staring at him cautiously as it shivered. The snow and wind outside had begun to pick up. Luminaire's intent to shoo it away was fading. Was it really okay to leave it out in the storm? As much as the Celinox didn't want to admit it, he couldn't just let the minion stay out there any longer. His heart softened and he picked the Niakko up gently and carried it inside."I am just going to keep you in here until after the storm ends, then you are going back where you came from, okay?" He wasn't quite ready to give it a home yet. It gave a small mew in response, as if understanding, then fell asleep in his grasp.
Luminaire gently set the little white and black feline down by the fire. Hopefully the storm would pass quickly. As the minion slept, the Celinox who had rescued it began to think. What if it didn't have a home? There were sure to be more snowfalls this season. Where would it go then? He sighed and decided maybe this little minion could stay if it had no home.
After a few days of patient care, the two went out into the town together one night. Holiday lights decorated the trees and houses for the season. Luminaire watched as the Niakko bounded through the fallen snow, and pawed at the end of a strand of lights on a pine tree. It seemed fascinated by the glowing bulbs. Luminaire began to laugh at the creature's antics.
Maybe the holidays weren't so bad after all... Maybe he could try harder this year. He made his way through the snowy street to the Niakko, deciding he could give it a present this holiday as a new start. It needed a name. He thought of a perfect one. From now on he would call it Snowfall, since they had met during a snowstorm. For the rest of that Luminaire season, he and Snowfall celebrated, and even decorated their first tree together.
