Year 1:

Hidden deep in the outskirts of Scotland, concealed from the muggle eye, stands the finest school for witchcraft and wizardry. Disguised by countless amounts of charms and spells, the first years are coming. Murmurs of excitement fill the air as the boats drift closer to the numerous towers. A lantern at the tip of each boat emitted a warm glow. Little hands would reach as the warmth tickled the way back into their numb hands and sent sparks of warmth all around their shivering bodies. The lantern sat centre in the small wooden boats. They lit up the eerie ripples of water that filled the sand covered ocean basin. It lapped up again the buoyant structures, and calmly, but definitely not coincidentally, steered them towards the mountainous cliffs that surrounded Hogwarts. They were covered in jagged edges and sharp points that have been carved by the tides and Poseidon's trident over many centuries. Acting like a wall, the many cliffs surround the classical castle, that is outlined by the looming night sky. The midnight blue atmosphere is accentuated with a few wisps of small strato-cumulus puffs. The barely visible moon hides behind a translucent curtain of cloud and fog. The many towers are connected by a series of extensive bridges and columns. Bright lights cascading from the towers illuminated the darkness around the school, and many would call this home.

Two students sat silent next to eachother on the last boat in the group. The little girl on the right pressed herself against the edge of the boat trying to get a closer look at the water, she was mindblown at how these boats were steering themselves. This isn't how boats worked in her muggle science textbooks. Her long brown hair dangled over the edge as the ends kissed the ocean surface. The girls dark brown eyes gleamed with curiosity and her little hands gripped the edge of the boat so she wouldn't fall in, (she wouldn't want her mother getting angry). The boy was also leaning over the edge of the boat, but for entirely different reasons. He was petrified and terribly seasick, and didn't want to vomit inside the boat. The boy had almond shaped dark brown eyes and his tousled ebony hair was cut just above his ears. The girl looked to her left and noticed the boy with his head in his hands - looking several shades of green.

"Are you okay?" she asked timidly. He looked up from his hands and offered a pained smile.

"I'm fi-," and before he could finish he tasted his lunch in the back of his throat and projected his vomit to the ocean beside him. Utterly mortified, but feeling remarkably better he wiped the bit of dribble left beside his mouth with the sleeve of his new robes.

"I'm fine," the boy offered a small smile,"now." The girl erupted in a fit of giggles and he joined in despite his hot red cheeks. Afterwards, the boy stuck his hand out in offering and introduced himself.

"My name is Danny, what's yours?"

"Emily,"she replied unsure what else to say. After a brief moment of tension Danny broke the silence.

"So are your parents, y'know, wizards?"

"No, oh goodness no, I'm so lost," Emily gushed.

"Me too!" Danny laughed,"My mom thought this whole thing was a joke at first."

"Mine too!" Emily responded wide eyed. "Hey you know, if you don't know anyone else, I mean only if you want, we can be friends, I guess, if you want."

"Sure! I don't know anyone and it'd be nice to have someone to eat meals with,"Danny beamed,"I mean if we're sorted into the same house and all that." Emily nodded in excitement, and the rest of the ride they sat in a comfortable silence. Year 2

"Danny get that away from me!" Emily shrieked at the goopy mess in Danny's hands, that by the way, smelled peculiarly of cinnamon and toilet water.

"It's nothing Em, just a concoction I whipped up in Potions when Professor Lionfeld wasn't lookin'." She looked at him in utter disgust, backing up against the picnic bench behind her.

"Just whatever you do, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT, get any of that on my herbology homework, I've been working on this for ages," Emily grumbled, lip still rolled back in disgust. Danny swiftly dropped the unknown pile of goop behind him on the group, and wiped the remnants of the substance on his black cloak. Emily rolled her eyes in frustration, he didn't know how to do his laundry so she knew she would be washing that later on. XOX
