Legacy Name: Knight of Heavens

I never thought that being a Knight would be the loneliest job. When I was growing up, I always answered the same thing when asked what I wanted to be when I grew up: a Knight. Who wouldn't want to fight for honor? I never thought about the downside of course.
The road to become a Knight wasn't easy. Sure, I could follow the Chivalric code. I'd had it memorized since I was a little kid: "Protect the weak, defenseless, helpless, and fight for the general welfare of all." I started out as a Page, just like everyone else. I was soon a Squire. I worked twice as hard as my peers. I was dubbed a real Knight at the age of 19. My first few years as a Knight were exciting and challenging. The best years of my life.

I was then assigned to guard and protect the palace called Heavens. Sure, I was excited. The king entrusted me with his most prized palace. That's when it all went downhill. There were so many ungrateful people living in the palace. The title of Knight held no meaning anymore to the people. How was I supposed to protect such people? It drove me mad to even think about it. That's when I met her. She came to me in a dream; I knew not whom she was, or even where she had come from. I did know that she was some sort of fairy. She had shimmering wings and dark skin, she reminded me of an angel. She asked me how I was feeling, and I told her the truth. I told her about the ungrateful people, and how miserable I was. She just smiled wrote something on a list she was carrying. I woke up soon after she vanished from my dream. It was already morning when I had woken up. It started out as a normal day; I went on my usual patrol out of habit. Not taking the time to notice my surroundings. Then I realized it was too quiet. I searched the palace for any signs of life, but to no avail. I was alone. It made no sense, where was everyone? They couldn't have just vanished in a puff of smoke...or maybe they did. To this day I have not figured it out.

But here I am. Still waking up each day to silence. I have lost track of the years I've spent alone. It makes no difference now. No one is coming back. I will remain here though, acting as the Knight of the palace called Heavens. Once a busy place filled with ungrateful, rich snobs. Now it is only home to silence. I never thought I would miss those people. But alas, that girl has never once returned in my dreams. Maybe this is my punishment for doubting my duty to protect everyone, no matter how ungrateful they may be.
