It's late. The ship is so quiet, yet so loud. The crew has retired for the evening. I'm not fool enough to believe they're sleeping, not after the looting of the hours prior. I'm sure they're somewhere below deck, squabbling amongst themselves, gambling, laughing.. I'm just glad the noise is contained to the floors below. Here, in my cabin, it's peaceful. Nothing to hear but the splash of the water against the stern behind, the wind galling through the sails above and the creak of my vessel.
