.soft-spoken.clouded leopard.

To be born to a family of reclusive predators with half of his genes tainted by human blood. To be hated for what he was, for what he signified in their perfect lives of living outside of human comprehension. Even his own mother cursed him for his existence, the hateful wretch. Living day to day was nothing but a tax on his mental stability and physical strength; No peace was ever brought to him, and no rest was deep. Always keeping on alert should any of his fellow Leopards decide he was too weak to keep on living, or too much of a threat to stay with them.
Well, they got what they wanted after only a short time. Traveling through the forests of India, one would not expect a human to stumble across a creature so tiny and adorable. One would think even less that said human would suddenly shoot the creature in the neck with a dart filled with a paralytic. Conscious through the whole ordeal of being tied up, leashed, and dropped into a iron cage in the bed of some large mechanical beast, the young Leopard could not even cry out to his mother to save him, though he doubted if she would even if he could. They all wanted him gone. He had accepted it long ago.. But it still hurt to know that no other would mourn his departure, his abduction.
After his first year in a type of slavery that he could not understand, being whipped with a switch and having food withheld until he degraded himself into taking photos with other humans that paid for the honor, it came to a relief to him when his body finally gave out under the mistreatment of his cruel master. Once his body went out he was handed off to another that would use him for food and medicine. The bastards. At least he now knew why the Leopards feared and hated humans to such an extent. They thought they could do whatever they wanted, kill whatever happened to fall at their feet, thought they were all powerful. Well, he had human blood in him, as well. He was their equal! He would not be eaten like some common stray cat picked up on the street.
Except; He could do nothing to stop the cleaver that descended and chopped off his tail even in his wakened state. His body was utterly dead to any sensation. He could not fight back even if by some chance it would save his neck from the deadly cleaver that was now resting next to his paws, blooded from chopping off the first few inches of his tail.
All hell broke loose within the time it took for the man to raise the cleaver once more. Bullets sprayed through the house, just missing his body by scant few millimeters, some even leaving a singed path of fur along his side and hind leg. The man went down in a cry of shock, followed swiftly by the other inhabitants of the house that had attempted to scuttle out of harms way. The next group of humans that inhabited the house looked nothing like the humans that he had, up until now, seen his whole life. They were pale, ugly creatures. Yellow hair growing from where black usually grew. Blue and green eyes in place of brown eyes. Too much variety. Too much mixing of blood. Too much. Just too much. At least the previous humans were all one in the same. Dark hair, dark skin, and dark eyes. These new humans took pity on him despite their gruff cuffing back and forth, though they were wary he would strike out and give them some wound, though he doubted he would be able to through the thick fabric of their clothing. The eldest decided upon putting a bullet in his head to relieve his suffering, but a younger human with green eyes and black hair vetoed against killing him. Damn.
It was decided. If this human could take care of him and keep him from attacking any of the others, he would be transported back to a veterinary clinic across seas and then placed in some zoo. Weird. These humans were not at all like the ones he had grown up with. They were actually leaving him be, letting him be a Leopard. They weren't trying to touch him, and leash him, and take pictures of him. They were leaving him be to lick his wounds and do as he pleased. Mother would definitely be shocked to see such humans not trying to imprison a Leopard to make into their personal pet. Though he never quite understood what was going on around him, he always grasped that there was a battle between territory going on. Guns being fired, orders being given and received, death, wounds, precision deployment. Why, these humans functioned just like wolves. And because they functioned like wolves, then it was simple to assume that they were, in fact, wild beasts just like he. This could be why he felt so comfortable around them.
The battle drew to a close a year after he was taken in by this particular pack of wolves. He had since healed well and accepted these beasts into his family, though a few had died as a casualty of war. No matter. What more could one ask for than to die an honorable death of fighting for preservation and expansion? After this year he was finally taken across seas with the man whom had originally rescued him from the cleaver and bullet meant to take his life, one for selfish reasons, the other for mercy. He was indeed taken to a medical clinic, where it was here his life became a bit more complicated. Five years of life and he had never experienced something as substantially life altering as this.
Being examined by some human male with grey hair and a wrinkled face, his bones began to pop in all sorts of odd directions. It scared the human at first, and then it intrigued him, as well as his wolf. Before their eyes a human bloomed from the flesh of a Clouded Leopard. His wolf was stunned, he could see, and he most definitely wanted to abandon the Leopard right then and there, but feeling a sort of responsibility for the man that now crouched before him with savage blue-yellow eyes and wild red and tawny hair, he stayed, though was reserved. The older medicine man wanted to run tests on him, but when a scalpel was pulled he reacted by hissing and moaning and scurrying under the wolf's chair for protection. The wolf took it as a sign that it was time to go.
His new life started a bit slowly, and yet quickly all at once. His wolf, whom he began to call Jerry, as per his request(though he does call him Wolf every now and again), was nervous about being around him in the beginning, but soon enough, after staying as a human for more than a month, the tension towards him ebbed away. They were like brothers from that point on. He was taught how to communicate with other humans, learned how to act in human society, and even wore clothing--Although it is still uncomfortable to him after being naked for the first years of his life. Mostly, though, he only wore pants, even when out in public. It would embarrass Jerry, but he went with it.
After being together with Jerry for more than eight years, the wolf was suddenly taken from him after being called back into active duty by the pack leader that had become part of his family those few years earlier. Unable to refuse, he was left all alone. His Leopard nature did not mind the solitude, but his human nature missed the wolf that had become his brother. He wanted to be with the human more than he wanted to be alone. He was not a Leopard like his mother. He could not survive comfortably without the presence of this human that had inserted himself into his life. And be damned if he didn't follow the man into the Army, though not in the most conspicuous of forms.
He had practiced for months before he was actually able to change back into the form he had originally been in when he first met Jerry and the Wolf Pack. And in this form he was easily able to sneak aboard a base bound vehicle full of potential wolves and onto a military training base. Jerry's old bunker was where he went first, only to find it inhabited by a new recruit and her pack. He snuck away and wandered around for most of the day, slinking from one shadow to the next until he finally came upon where his wolf was staying until he departed back across seas. Sneaking into the bunker wasn't hard. Sneaking into bed to snuggle into the back of a trained wolf, however; He was crushed by the weight of his mate's shoulder and side suddenly and the lights flicked on. And then he was suddenly freed by the wolf, whom initially squeaked out in shock until he noticed the missing inches from his tail.
It was slow going convincing the Alpha Wolf to let him accompany the rest of the pack on their mission but Jerry, with the help of some massive cuddling on his behalf, was able to convince the Wolf to let him accompany the pack as a pet. Though he did not like the title much, he didn't mind because he was able to stay by his family. A few new faces were intermingled with the old pack, but soon he came to accept them, as well, while on their missions overseas. He alerted them to potential threats, and they gave him lots of strokes and meat. It was his ideal life.
Until he was unable to hold his change any longer and transformed in front of every single member of the pack, females included. Their reactions, too, akin to Jerry's initial reaction. Stunned shock, wariness, a need to get away; A few of them actually did give an ultimatum to their Alpha to either leave the beast or they were leaving; And a few of them actually followed through with their threat when he was not left behind. Ah, humans and their close-minded attitudes. And to think, he had accepted those humans into his life, only to have them walk out on him after finding out his biggest secret. Blessed be those who accepted him, albeit reluctantly. After resting for a few days in this useless form, and being of no help whatsoever, he forced himself back into his other shift and continued on with his duties. The relationship between he and the pack would never be quite the same--The strokes and praise had stopped along with the feeding from their hands. Though, Alpha and Jerry continued to stroke him and praise him for a job well done--but he was pleased that he could help to keep his family alive and mostly unharmed.
The year passed in a whirlwind of bullets and travel. Relationships mended at a snail's pace until he was fully re-accepted into the pack of wolves. And keeping to their words, none of them ever spoke of what they learned during their time overseas with the strange little Leopard. However, Alpha--Or Lieutenant Keagen--insisted on his formally joining the military with a special recommendation to be placed in his care as soon as his training was completed. None of the others seemed to disapprove. So, he did just that. It would do no good if he caused troubles for his family, after all. And they getting caught with an extra, unaccounted for male in their ranks would definitely be trouble.
