His soul is a blazing fire, held in a hearth called the heart. Aptitude and fortitude have always been his game, and he excels at both. A mage of great renown, his specialization is clearly reflected in his regal appearance. Fire is his forte, and from his fingertips it flows as freely as water from a faucet if he wills it. Blessed by a fire elemental, he is truly a ferocious opponent, and not the type you'd want as your enemy. However if you've earned his trust and loyalty, a gift not easily obtained, he's one of the best people you'll ever have the chance to know. Merrick is kindhearted although this rarely shows through in his stern face. He loves to be surrounded by fellow magi and those of his ilk, and surrounds himself with people he can relate to. He may not show it as he usually is quite the silent fellow, and his sharp tongue usually scares people away.
Born into a privileged noble family, Merrick has never truly had a taste of the 'hard life.' He was accepted into a academy for the magically gifted when he was still young, and has lived there most of his life. He scarcely even remembers his family, but he carries around an old and faded picture of them as a reminder. While his reputation names him as a mage of great power and skill, he abhors too much attention and hates the fact that so many people love him not for his personality but for his talents with magic. For this reason he usually only keeps good company with a select few he knows he can trust. His loyal companion, Sanctum, is his best friend and he dotes on the little thing a little too often.

These crowded streets full of various peoples seem to me as bright as a diamond in the sun. I love the sights, the sounds, the smells that the city provides, and the rich menagerie of personalities colliding and crashing together to form this rich society. There are faults of course- prejudice, hate, malice, corruption- but the gains of living here fair outweigh the losses. I hope to find a place here as an individual, and I hope to know better these faces I see so often wandering the streets, hope to know the names and stories of those behind them, and pray that they may know me as well someday.
