Marinette comes from a rich family who lost everything in stock exchange. It was a shock at first for her, but she quickly found it was an opportunity to reject her family legacy, live her own life and earn everything she owned. She hated the sensation that her ancestors had done all the hard work and that she could have anything she wanted. She started from cleaning the toilets, then at some people house, she made laundry, assisted the elderly at home. She eventually became a maid in a manor of a rich girl. They immediately became friends, as the girl was feeling exactly like she did at her age. Lonely in a manor too big for her. Spoiled, and guilty because she was aware of it. Guilty because many bad guys are millionaires and she feared she might become "bad". More guilty because she felt she didn't have the right to be sad. Getting shelter in her imagination and her dreams. That closeness calmed the girl quite a bit, and is certainly the only reason Marinette still has her job. Because to be honest, she is very clumsy.

In spite of her condition, Marinette keeps a high sense of coquetry. She has always been quite charming and attractive and she knows it. In spite of her being sociable, she is quite shy and fragile. In fact she simply wants to be loved. It can result in her being quite narcissist. The constant arguments of her parents resulted in a need of security, a crave for peace and harmony, as well as developping her sense of diplomacy. She is very sensitive, which makes her prone to listening to others, but she seldom has good advices, because of her immaturity.

The only sacrifice she would never do is not wearing velvet. Velvet is her favorite fabric and she always wears something in velvet, black most of the time, would it be simply the ribbon in her hair. For that, one her nickname was "velours noir", that is to say Dark Velvet.

Relationships

She got attached to the newcomer very quickly. She is gentle and caring, and thus the person the chef feels the closest. She is convinced he can express feelings and never gives up trying to make him understand what feelings are... well at least the one linked to food. She is also quite close with the gardener and always comfort him when he gets sacked. She doesn't like Ice girl much, whom she percieve as ungrateful and egoistic, but that would certainly change if she knew her past.
