"Speectrum" is the ghostly form of one of the most famous artists in the history of Subeta, a man who was known not only for his art but for his inventive and analytical mind. He lived during the Renaissance, and his unquenchable curiosity was equaled only by his powers of invention. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest painters of all time and perhaps the most diversely talented person ever to have lived.
Since his death in 1519, his lack of material form (which initially frustrated him and gave him pause) has become a source of, shall we say, "different" inspiration. Where he once painted on canvas, he now paints upon the sky, delivering rainbows unparalleled. If you've ever tried to find the source of a rainbow to capture a pot of gold, only to find the rainbow moves or disappears, you can credit Speectrum for your frustration. Rainbows, back in the days of Speectrum's life, were the means to steal gold from leprechauns, and so much gold was stolen that the leprechauns were forced back into fairyland, broke and dejected. (You might have noticed the lack of them in modern times.) Now that rainbows are so ephemeral and changing, rumor has it that leprechauns are beginning to return from the land of the Fae, aiming to restore their vast fortunes and thankful that Leonardo, I mean Speectrum, has given them a way to keep their gold hidden from curious eyes.
Not one to be satisfied with simple goals, Speectrum invented the double and multiple rainbows that have been photographed in more recent years. This type of rainbow is ever so much more complicated to design, so it gives Speectrum a sense of accomplishment that he had at first been unable to reach after his death. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Speectrum didn't come up with even more intricate rainbows and, who knows, perhaps something altogether different. Keep an eye out for them... and if you were ever a pot-o'-gold hunter, you might want to keep an eye on your purse, as well. Those leprechauns might come visiting for a little payback. ;)
