A gentle touch, a warmth that was more comforting than any blanket, and a voice-
"I love you."
And then...another voice. My voice
"I love you too...."
Then the flash came. A burst of images, sounds and feelings. Terror, fear...Then nothing.
I woke up in a cold sweat, despite the fair morning temperature. Not again...The worst part of these dreams was the utter contrast. The warmth, and then reality. I shook off the yearnings and foggy thoughts. I could dwell on those later, for now- I had to go, get back on the road, searching, collecting anything that could revive a memory or the slightest familiar feeling.Where to go? I didn't know. Towards the sun. For some reason, that always seemed to feel right. Travel towards the sun, the east.
He smiled as he spotted a familiar face in the crowd. Good, she had made it.The celebration at the survivor's memorial was yearly- a time to mourn those who had passed on, yet celebrate their lives. There were hundreds of people here, of all different species. Most were fairly well-groomed...but a few were obviously from the rougher side of town. He tried not to let his annoyance show at such a realization- and he succeeded.
"Hey. Just because they're not dressed as nicely is no reason to think poorly of them."
His slightly furrowed brow relaxed as her voice sounded from next to his ear.
"How do you know that's what I was thinking?"
She gave him a nuzzle on his neck, which quickly turned into a playful nudge.
"Because I know you."
He shot her an amused but still slightly annoyed look.
"Fair enough."
Leaning her head on his shoulder, it was easy to feel him tense up.
"Sheesh. I can't even be this close to you without you being tighter than a stretched rubber band!"
He shifted on his hooves slightly, obviously a bit uneasy.
"You know I'm working on that."
He missed the mischievous look in her companion's eyes, and she neatly slid under his neck to give him a long kiss, then her features breaking out into a wide grin.Mainly because he had that 'oh-you-just-didn't semi-serious look on his face.Letting out a giggle, she sat down next to him, and he followed suite, many of the other guests already sitting to watch the performance. It was a ballet from what she understood, celebrating the peace between the unliving and the surface dwellers. She didn't understand why he was still so tense though.
He, however, had good reason to be tense. He fished out a black felt box from the leather satchel on his side, and maneuvered it near his hooves. He had put this off far too long.
"Do you remember when we first met?"
She nodded, curling up next to him happily.
"Yep. I thought you were a stuck-up too-serious jerk."
He made a face and tried to glare at her....only partially succeeding.
"And I thought you were a could-care-less goofball."
He paused, shaking his head slightly with amusement.
"And somehow, I couldn't get my mind off of you. I don't know when that started...."
She met his gaze, a wry smile on her features.
"Probably when I beat you at your own race."
Another cute brow-furrowing, causing another grin on her part.
"Possibly."
Another pause, this time his hooves shifted the box closer.
"Lurella....."
She looked over to him, his usually semi-serious features drawn a bit tighter than usual. Was something wrong?
"Hmmm?"
He opened the box, inside of it showing a red cloth with a golden band, and on it, a diamond set in the center of an intricate sun.
"Will you marry me?"
Tears began to stream from her eyes, but they were the farthest from those of sadness. Happiness welled up in her throat, a smile refusing to leave her face.
"I...."
*****BANG!*******
The entire audience area erupted into flame and flying bodies. Smoke choked the air, and screams clogged everyone's ears.
***THUD***
He looked up, and saw a large steel beam hurtling down at them, part of the outdoor theatre. He was in the middle of shoving her out of the way, when he saw more debris fly their way, and another explosion....and her face. Lit by the fire that burned all around. He got one last look at her- mane plastered with sweat and grime, but still her eyes were defiant, refusing to be snuffed out. Then everything went black.

"Uuuugh."
"Hey....Nurse! I think this one's waking up! Stay still now...."
I opened my eyes, but just as quickly closed them again. The pain across my head was incredible
"Wh....what? Where am I?"
"The Centropolis hospital. How do you feel?"
It was a female talking....a nurse I guessed.
"Like I got hit with a house....what happened?"
Another voice now- this one a male.
"There was a bomb...some of the more radical unliving attacked the event. We are still dealing with the wounded, and worse."
Someone else, I was with s....
"Where is he?!"
The nurse now spoke.
"Who?"
I tried to force my eyes open, but the pain was too much.
"I....someone... He was with me...."
I need to find him, I need to remember!
Lurella woke up with a yawn, performing her usual stretches and limbering up exercises. Strange that she always had felt so much motivation to travel to the west. Especially today.
'tink'
She gasped as a small gem rolled out of her saddlebag and skittered across the floor. Managing to pin it down before it rolled into a crevasse, Lurella cradled the object in her hooves. It was a diamond, or a very good replica. It was circular, and had gold embroidery on it. It was so faded and tarnished though, it was hard to see what the gold had originally been.
It went back in the saddlebag, and after munching on some pastries she had bought in the last town, she was off.
The morning sun warming her was always a pleasant feeling. This time though, something was different. She finally was getting...tired? Was that it? Maybe.
As usual, she travelled until mid-day, stopping for some rest and a snack near a lake. Wait...this seemed familiar.
She looked around, and sighed sadly. This WAS familiar. This would be the second time she had come back to this spot. It was outside of Centropolis, near some sort of monument. Her travels, whether it be a few weeks or a few months, always led her back here.
Some ripples spread across the lake, causing her to look around. There was another person slowly walking along the lake. It was a male, with handsome dark fur....
He then looked up, and strange emotions began to flood her heart. It was like in her dreams, but she wasn't asleep. Who was this? She couldn't help but walk over to him, and he seemed to be frozen in place.
"Who are you?... I know you, don't I?"
A terrified look washed over his eyes, then replaced by sadness. He tried to say anything but he couldn't.Seeing tears gather in his eyes, she started to shake her head, but jer memories were still too blurry. Seeing this person so sad ignited a storm of feelings and thoughts, she couldn't stand to see him this sad.
"I-I'm sorry"
She said. He slowly reached into his bag, withdrawing a small and battered trinket."Don't be"
Said he. She stared at the battered piece of metal. A sun inscription, a missing piece....
Pulling out the small gem, they stared at it, then looking up at each other and trembling he took one step closer to her.Unable to move, she watched as he gently took the gem and placed it inside the trinket, it was completed now, a sort of ring... an electric shock seemed to run through her entire body as memories broke through and spun through her mind.
She had found him. The one who had conforted her in her dreams, the reason of her travels, all the things she wanted to say but only tears left her body.
"Don't be"
He whispered, she closed her eyes for a moment and then she finally said as she hugged him.
"I do!"
