A cool breeze awoke Kaede from his slumber. He could feel the temperatures falling for the past few days and the days getting shorter. He stretched and uncovered the dead leaves from his hollowed tree he nested in. A pair of orange eyes blinked into the morning sun. Something felt different about this time around. Last year, he had discovered his powers of bringing autumn to the forest. He always remembered what that felt like, but something about today just felt... off. His first step into the green forest revealed dead grass under his paw, just like he remembered. Another step, the flowers beside him began to shrivel. He burst out into a run, remembering how much he loved this season to come. Red, yellow, and orange leaves fell around him. Although this season is usually associated with the death that is winter to come, that didn't matter to Kaede.

Generally, he always kept to himself while he was awake. He didn't really interact with the animals of the forest. More often than not, they seemed to run away from him. They seemed to realize that he meant the end of summer which meant a winter would be coming soon; hardship and suffering. A small rabbit sat in front of him, terrified, and refusing to move. He was starving, but didn't have the heart to kill something with such fear in its face. Kaede moved on, reminiscing about two years ago when life was so simple, so easy. He barely remembered his mother, who had died when he was a very young pup. His brother and himself had raised themselves and survived, beating the odds.

Out of nowhere, a flash of white, gray, and green pounced on him. The two tumbled into a patch of grass that wasn't sure whether to grow or die. The beast finally released him and stood, panting, at the front.
"I finally found you, brother..." was all that was needed to be said.

After a long reunion, Kaede learned that his brother must return to his slumber for the natural seasons to continue. Thus, they had agreed to always meet when winter and summer began to fade.
